Feeding SPS necessary?

Over the past year my sps has been growing great, but has suffered in lack of color and some polyp extension. Im thinking that it may possibly be due to me not feeding my sps in particular.

I have a 75 gallon tank with 55 gallon sump and only 6 fish, most medium to small size. I feed mysis once a day. I bought a hannah meter and it registered 0.00 ppm for po4's.


am i starving my sps to the state of unhealthy?

Short answer is Yes. Buy more fish and feed them more. I have a 90g sps tank and it has around 18 fish that I feed 3 times a day. I run bio pellets to keep po4 and no3 at zero so I can have alot of fish and feed them alot. My sps color and growth is awesome I do feed the sps and lps once a week directly with phyto and cyclopes.

You can also just feed your existing fish more if you don't want more fish. I currently only have 4 fish in my 90G, but i dont skimp on the food.
But yes they could be nutrient starved.

My previous tank, a 75g, was so freaking clean, that I had a hard time keeping good colors on anything. I fed only once a day, or every other day, out of fear of algae. I never had it, but didn't want it. Once I upped my feedings, things started growing more and coloration improved.

I'm having similiar issues only having 3 small fish in a 37g. I just started feeding oyster eggs last weekend. No results yeat after only 2 feedings, but I did notice a feeding response. More PE after feeding and it looks like they were pulling tenticles to their tiny mouths as I was spot feeding. Hope I see good results.

+1 for feeding. My sps were getting super pale and eventually a few started dying when they got almost colorless. I began feeding Reef Nutrition Roti-Feast and OysterFeast and within a month they turned around and began coloring back up fabulously. Now lots of growth, lots of color and no more pale sps.

yea. i have a new build starting on a 100gal long tank. and im going to load it up with fish im thinking.

alot of my sps looks "good" but a few species just doesnt look THAT good. alot that have taken a hit are the monti species. No nudis eatin them.

my mag is super high though around 1500
alk 9 and ca 400


another thing i worry about is the lack a great flow in my tank that has grown up soo much


BUT i think there is another issue here. you know something is up when ur xenia isnt spreading like it used to rampantly , and it also looks emaciated too!
