Fell kinda bad...

I got a baby pair of black false percs about a year ago. They never left each others side. I introduced a Sebae anem about 3 weeks ago, and the pair ignored it until a couple of days ago. Now one of the percs has grown at least 10% (must have became the female) and won't leave the anem alone! I feel bad for the male....he comes over every now and then to hang out in the anem with the female....but most of the time he stays in his old spot in the upper right corner of the tank. Is this "normal behavior" for the percs? Was it just coincidence that they went through maturity right after I introduced the anem, or did that somehow facilitate the process? Lots of questons....any info would be greatly appreciated.

the female is definitely asserting her dominance by taking over the anemone. When they've *really* bonded, the female would allow the male to hang out in the anemone w/her, and they will probably even end up sleeping together in it. This may take a few days or even a few weeks, depends on if your fish feel like pairing off :) In the meantime don't worry about the male. I just evicted my true percs that were hosting my RBTA for a pair of percs w/unusual coloration, and at first they both took to my frogspawn, and then the male left to hang out in the top corner for a few days (i'm guessing kinda like yours?) ... now they hang int he frogspawn together! haha. go figure :p

Thanks for the info Jamie. The female is hilarious to watch. She gets so agressive in the anem that she is stirring up the sand all around it, and has actually caused it to move form the left front corner of the tank about 6 inches towards the middle. Then she swims over to the male for a quick hello....and its back to the Sebae.
