Filter killed my condy:(

So I got home to find my condy anemone ripped to shreds and stuck in the intake gooey dead :( I still have a rbta that could end up the same what can I do to prevent this horrible accident I also have 2 hydor powerheads 450 gph please help with ideas .

Filters over the power heads.

NEVER have a powerhead near an anemone without protection on it.

Sorry been there done it, it wont happen to me... Yeah right. If I had the t-shirt I would take a picture of me wearing it and make it my avatar.
 
When you say filters over the powerhead what you mean take a filter and zip tie it around? Or do they make a sock or something
 
Thank you good ideas now only problem is the filter can't get large debris but it saves the anemone so now does that mean more water changes ?
 
Yes... you need to do a water change or two.

As the flesh will start to decay and turn to ammonia and the stingers will be floating in the water column.

Are you running carbon?
 
So here is what I did picked up nylon mesh from homedepot for pet screens will this work

you killed the condy not the filter, by not cover up all intake of any powerhead and filter.
i would do a sponge over the intake instead of that screen. they make a sponge for MJ powerhead, that should fit over that intake of your filter.
 
That's harsh how am I supposed to know I have to alter products made for saltwater aquariums ? I ordered a sponge on line that slips over the intake but this is temporary since it won't come for a week
 
Yes.... as a temporary fix it will work.

The EcoTech MP series have filters that come with them, that are made for them.

You research. RC is a great resource with a bunch of people that are very willing, even enthusiastic, about telling you what to do. Many of them even tell you the right way. :D But seriously, there's a ton of good info here. Look around and see what sort of critters you like, then find out what equipment you will need to properly care for it. As an example, I love clams. I found out that since I like clams, there's a bunch of fish that I shouldn't get because they would nibble on my clams. I would probably never know that if it wasn't for this site.
 
I would not do sponge either, often becomes a nitrate sink.
Hagen makes a quick clip intake cover for those type of intakes, they work best IME.
 
I totally agree thank you just wouldn't expect a filter or skimmer or circulation pump should have to be altered it should say on the box not to use in a marine or saltwater tank with out proper atachments and the company should make special atachments for each of there products this hobby isn't cheep I had to have spent over 3k in just one tank so far and everyday is another Iteam I'm missing it just ****es me off that a company like fluval or hydor or prizm or marine land any one of those company's would say requires a protective screen and then we have the lfs which have knowledge only when you challenge them but they are always looking to sell you what ever it takes which gets me going especially with there 24hour guarantee! Ugh it's like they know majority of the fish they sell will end up dead and there solution so they don't lose money is make a short guarantee. I have done massive amounts of reading and research I just overlooked it I searched numerous sites for care for anemones and none stated mesh over intakes they only stated proper levels stable tank etc until I searched anemone stuck in intake I got a whole lot of info it's just hard to prepare the worst in everything cause even though you think you did everything right there will always be something you over looked and the thing that sutured me up is I spent over 400 just to save one black molly that I had in a quarantine tank which had parisites and fungus itch and pop eye why because the lfs store didn't take care of there tank I brought home a water sample of there water and it was off the charts whit amonia and nitrite I did all that to save a fish that normally won't last long and he still died after a month of care

Thank you for the info I'm always looking for someone else's intelligence one will always learn by a mistake but it's always beter to have someone else make that mistake so you learn off it Sorry if I may have been a little snappy I just really hate when fish die it's no different from a cat dog or even a person so still a little upset

It should right out of the box, most are a pretty common size, but if for some reason not it should be able to be modified pretty darn easy.
Zip ties are a wonderful thing!
 
Also is this look normal ? I have a small rbta but a huge cinnamon clown is he going to kill my anemone ? I know the clown isn't dead cause he gets out and comes back in he actually goes to the power head and is taking off caught food now that I have a screen on it and giving it to him I'm just worried he is too big
