Well, if you plan to use a sock, I'd suggest getting at least 3 so you can change them out often, like every 3-4 days, or they become a nitrate sink.
I'm lazy, I know I won't do that, so I don't use them other than once in a blue moon to polish my water before photo's.
I'd check sponsor forum here, maybe marine depot.

Yeah marine depot has some but they measure 7x16 , i just thought this seemed to big.
I dont know if the whole sock has to be in water or if i can tie it on the pipe and have just alittle in the water(about 2-3 inches)

Thanks for the input on the more than one,ill get about 3-4 sounds like.

i buy mine from marine depot they work flawlessly and really keep the water clean... The primary reason i use them is to stop micro bubles and they do a great job of eliminating hem

Are you using them on your return line going into your sump?

I rinse mine in the sink right after I pull them out of the tank. Then I throw them in a bucket until I have a few of them collected. Once I have several piled up I throw them in the washing machine with bleach with an extra rinse cycle. After they are dry I rinse in RODI water by hand and in the tank they go.

Make sure you put it so if the sock gets clogged up when you are not looking the water can flow out the top back in to your sump and not on the floor! Lesson learned the hard way.

I tried filter socks and landed up making a drop box filter with crap from the dollar store. I started with a large plastic container and then drilled holes around the bottom so that all the water that came down had to pass through it to get into the sump. All I did to fill it was to put progressively finer filtration from top to bottom. Sponge at the top, finer and finer grades of floss type mats on the way down. It's a snap to see when it needs cleaning, as the water level inside climbs up. Worst case scenario if it gets full is that the excess just flows over the edge into the sump. Clean up is just a quick fling through the washing machine, no soap, no bleach, and then back in they go. less than twenty bucks for the whole thing, and the sump stays clean.
