Filter Socks

Hey guys  so yesterday I tossed my filter socks in the washer for 30 minutes and once the cycle was done I started another cycle for an hour. After taking out the socks, I noticed they smelled "fresh as spring morning" even though I had not added anything to the wash cycle. Should I be worried?:worried:

I always added bleach when I washed my socks. I also did extra rinse. I never had issues with this method as long as I let them dry before use.

I would wash them a few more times with nothing in your wash, potentially with some bleach for round one.

when washing your socks, it would be a great practice to run an empty wash prior to running your socks.

Personally I throw my socks away and a few times a year I have my wife make me a few dozen felt socks.

I put mine through a wash cycle with bleach, then a rinse cycle with just water. My socks also smell a bit like detergent when dry and I have been using them like that for years with no issues.

are you using a strong detergent on your regular laundry? like the one in tv commercial where it still smells like newly washed after a month? if so, that may be a problem.

that seems like a lot of water to wash and rewash the sock.
as an alternative, you can diy and use a brand new one every time. I'm sure the cost per sock will be way less compared to the water and electricity used to wash.

I agree with d0ughb0y, could be using one of those hardcore detergents or your washer isn't emptying totally after the wash cycle thus leaving some old water.

They are still good. I hand wash all mine in 5 gal bucket. Little bleach, wash , double rinse, set in sun, dry. Rinse with ro/di. Done.

Just throw them in the trash... and don't buy more..
Now you don't have to worry if its a problem..
Plus you never need to wash filter socks again...

Enjoy the sockless life.. Let the particles roam free to be consumed/useful,etc...

I wash mine separately with a small amount of laundry soap (unscented Tide) and a healthy splash of bleach. When that is finished, I run another cycle on rinse (no soap or bleach) and then let them air dry. I've been doing that for 10 years without issue...

I'm with everyone else. Wash on normal with only bleach, then I do a quick cycle with prime, air dry and use.

Sometimes I'll soak mine in peroxide before washing, but I normally just run them through a couple cycles with no bleach or detergent.
