Finally, fish in the 10 ft. tank

by far the nicest rosk work that i've seen ! is it drilled w pvc stantions or epoxied or something else ? i really like it , it all looked perfecty done . the piping will disapear when you add some corals if you place them well . looks like your quite capable , nice job dude

I very much appreciate the comments Ryan, iamwrasse, and kings!

iamwrasseman: There is epoxy at a few points to reinforce some spots, otherwise it's just stacked and placed by hand. Thanks for your input about the piping. I really hope so and I will try my best!

dca22: Thanks! I got the tank from an LFS I go to frequently. It's called Fish Planet and he has been dealing with this tank builder for 15+ years.

Can't wait to see coral in it. How heavy was it, how did you get it down stairs (it is downstairs isn't it?) It looks great!

Thanks Pam, I can't wait to get some things in there too. I have 2 elegance I so badly want to move in there. I didn't get it down the stairs, I have a lookout basement and we took out a window to get it inside.

I think the final weight is close to 7000 pounds with water and rock.

Doh! I forgot to reply to indy's question.
Yes! That is a bullet 2....you know your stuff! I have no more funds right now....so I will have to make do with my existing equipment.

Thanks again dca22!

Happy Holidays everyone!

When you connected the spa flex for the closed loops did you use deep socket couplings? I ask because I have read before that spa flex is not recommended in pressure situations. I have seen many closed loops set up using spa flex and I am just wondering if you or anyone else has had a problem with a connection failing? I would like to use spa flex for my closed loop for ease of plumbing although I have been a little concerned. On spaflex.com they sell extra deep socket couplings. Has anyone used these? The tank looks great. Keep up the great work, it is inspiring.

Reefolution: Love your name. I have heard one person say they don't like using spaflex because they believe over time it will fail.

For me, I wanted to use spaflex because it was easier for some of those connections, and to decrease vibration on bulkheads going to the bottom of the tank.

I'm not sure our tanks are considered really high pressure, can someone confirm this? I was under the impression that our equipment would not max out any pvc/spaflex ratings.

I do remember seeing somewhere that there is a difference in rating given temp.

For me, I was somewhat concerned. For that reason I put true union ball valves everywhere. Basically, in case I need to take everything apart and cut off flow anywhere, I can do it easily and without too much of a mess.

As for deep socket couplings? I don't know the difference. This is my first time ever plumbing by myself. I thought it was deep....I pushed in about 1-1 1/4" when I glued.

For me, I'm actually more concerned about threaded connections than anything glued. Over time, my threaded connections have leaked a little. So far, none of the glued has leaked.

Thanks for your nice comments. Happy New Year!

Ogeee!
Thanks, the avatar pretty much is how I feel lately.
Thanks for clarifying about fittings. I know nothing.

I'm having fish fights all over this tank. My Borb (Big Bossy) has been going at it against the other Borb. Now my Balteatus pair is madly fighting. Mouth to mouth, body damage, fin damage, and dive bombing.

:mad2:
Here's Big Bossy:

Here are updated pictures of the tank. These are walking from left to right and then the full tank shot.

Thanks, the avatar pretty much is how I feel lately.
You should give me a call when you have some time. Then we can chit-chat.:)

Thanks for clarifying about fittings.
No problem. Me and PVC go way back.;)

I know nothing.
Don't kid yourself. You are a VERY smart cookie. Cookie! Besides, you could get by with looks alone!;);)

:)
What's that supposed to mean?!:p If you're referring to my fish-catching abilities, maybe we should set up a date. To catch some fish.;)

Hahahaa....it wouldn't be much of a chit-chat.....I just walk around all day going "huh? how am I supposed to do that?!" Doi.

No, I don't want to get rid of any fish...I'm really hoping they settle it soon. I didn't expect this nonsense...well maybe from Big Bossy.

I just mean 'if only I was Ogee' then my tank would be rockin. You are a good reefkeeper and fishkeeper and got some pretty aquascaping skills.

All the best to you in 2009!
