Finally found myself a H. Mag

After a long time searching I finally found a mag. One of my LFS got it in, I was told they would get me a red foot w/green tentacles but that's not what was there when I showed up. I was really disappointed at first and looked at it for a LONG time before I finally pulled the trigger on it. It has white tips which I thought were a little unique. It's been in my QT for a few hours now and is deflated with mouth gaping. I'm going to give it until I go to sleep before I decide if I start treatment today or if I wait. I hope this turns out good!




Ps: I brought a gig back to life, would it be the same process for the mag if I need to start treatment?

After the first dose of cipro it doesn't look much better this morning. Still deflated but the mouth seems to be closing up slowly. I'm going to set up my LEDs and run them pretty dim, max will be 20% and they will be at 20% for 4hrs. I've seen you guys bring back worse so I'm pretty optimistic.

Quick update... Mouth is tighter and tentacles no longer look stringy. It's still deflated quite a bit and still doesn't have sticky tentacles but now seems to have slight reaction to touch. Seems like it's making slight improvements which I'm happy about as long as it keeps moving forward!

Well the nem suddenly took a turn downhill and didn't make it, not too sure where I went wrong. Ironically I saw another ritteri while I was going around to different LFS today. This one seems much healthier! I really hope I don't lose another one.

Good luck with this one. Did you thoroughly clean out the QT before adding the new nem? If you are not careful, you could infect the new nem with the same pathogen that killed the old one.

Also, if he he looks healthy and you have no other mags in the DT, why not add him directly to the DT? If there is no risk of cross-infection I always recommend adding nems straight to the DT, where conditions are best.

I wiped the tank down with vinegar and let dry before re filling with water. I have 2 haddoni's in there now that are healthy. I thought it was always best to QT a nem before adding to the DT. I was thinking if it looked ok by the time I come home from work tomorrow I could add to the DT.

Well, since you have nems already in place in your display, I wouldn't rush the new nem, plus you already have it in QT, so I would let it ride a few days just to be sure...

Got home early from work and came home to my anemone on the side panel it's looking pretty healthy to me so far which is some great news.

Looks good. I'd get that nem in the DT. Even if he gets sick, mags typically do not infect haddonis because they are so distantly related. Keeping him in the QT is just stressing him out at this point IMO.

Nearly all acclimating nems have a slightly opened mouth for quite some time, so I wouldn't sweat it. To me, much more important than the mouth is a nem's inflation and ability to support itself upright and maintain shape. Yours looks very good in that regard. Is it sticky?

It'll slightly stick to my fingers if I touch it but I'm not sure how sticky it should be, I've never been able to touch a healthy one. Best I can describe is its not as sticky as my gig when I had one but not by much and nowhere near as sticky as my Haddoni.

That's fairly normal. Mags don't have nearly as potent of a sting as gigs and haddonis.

Can you get a picture of the mouth, if you have any doubts I would not add it to the DT. I have seen and have experienced too many anemones added to the DT too soon.

I'll see if I can get a good shot but now the mouth is closed tight.

What's the worst that can happen? If it gets sick, OP can just pull and treat at that point.
