FINALLY!! Getting my own tank filtration room. (pics)

I wouldn't suggest to some to not use check valves. Rather, I'd suggest that they don't rely on check valves. I have a check valve on my return pump, and it keeps 5 gallons of water out of my sump in case of power failure. I simulated a check valve failure, and I still have room for that 5 gallons in my sump, but it's still good to have one there, just in case.

what are the purple plumbing parts near the pump? also that black vat didnt come with all those bulkhead cut-outs right

They are the clear check valves so you can see what's going on inside.

I see you have an RO/DI Unit hanging on your wall Do you to have it set up to your sump or do you have it running to something else

ok on my ro/di i have it set up to fill that rubber maid can next to the sink for mixing up salt, also have it going to the wet/dry filter, i have valves at all the T'S on the RO line so i can cut any section off if necessary.

I like those smooth 90's. a lot less restrictive. I wish i used them on my setup.

I tried to use them as much as possible, and i also used oversized pipe on everything as well, like you said, to cut down on restriction, and have easy flow.

Don't use check valves on a reef tank or any other tank for that matter.

what kind of faliure are you talking about, I actually don't need them, if power does fail I have that 100 gallon sump, that i only keep half full, just for that reason, just one of those things we learn during the course of this hobby. I actually have them on there, cause i wanted to see the flow of water from my pump. But if the kind of failure you are talking about is that the flapper will come off and stop the flow of water, that would not be good. Something i will have to think about.

Keep the comments coming though, I appreciate it,

We are in the process of putting in the main tank right now, so I will have pics here in a couple of days.

also that black vat didnt come with all those bulkhead cut-outs right

I got that sump at a tractor supply store, its made by rubbermaid, but the only bulkhead that it comes with, is the one at the bottom center, and it is a 1 1/4 fitting. On my return from the tank I'm using a 2 inch line, and on my pump retruns, I'm using 1 1/2 line. I have a ball valve on the 1 1/4 fitting at the bottom, so just in case i need to drain the sump, it will be alot easier than tring to pump it out.

Well we finally got the tank here from the old house, and now to start plumbing it up.

I was talking earlier about trying to cut down on power and heat, and getting rid of the power heads is one of the ideas i had.

so here I'm also plumbing in a closed loop system with some more returns.

well, you know moving a saltwater tank no matter how big it is, just really scuks. But once i had the filtration at the new home up and running, we put them in the refugium for the time being until we could get the main tank in.

That plumbing job is amazing. And I thought I was good when I made my own SCWD Closed Loop. Oh boy was I wrong!

thanks wooden nickel, it looks complicated but its not,

here is a pic from the theater room looking at the fish room, the room in there is split, a sitting room to view the tank and then the back half is what is posted ealier here.

damn thats a sweet pad and nice setup, im trying to learn about how sumps work and learn how to design plumbing is there any good references arounds?

boyer, I got a lot of good ideas just by surfing around this site, also you can do some searches and find some better pics of rooms than this one.

thanks for the feedback,
well here I'm setting up the wall and installing the ballasts and timers for the lights.

well I've been away for awhile, sorry about that, here are the last stages of the new Fish Observatory.

Here we framed up the new wall around the tank, after all the plumbing and electrical was done.
