Why not all in the kitchen with the livingroom side being framed or "showcased"?
Since you're in the middle of construction, encase the kitchen side and vent it to the outside with a fan.

All in the kitchen would give you reason to add cabinets behind the tank! you could have a door to your plumbing that matched the rest of the cabinets in the kitchen as well as adding storage which IMO is always a good thing to have more of, or you could put counter space behind the tank (by behind I mean the end with plumbing assuming it is peninsula) and you could leave a little shelve on the living room side which I have found comes in handy for setting testing items and food dishes or anything you may want to set down quick while working on the tank. not sure how solid your plans are so thought id throw in a few ideas.

Ok guys. The tank will sit on a 12" deep base cab on the kitchen side...this will continue the "look" of the rest of the cabs. I will build a wall or "stand", for the other 12" on living room side. The kitchen side base will have full functionality, (doors open/storage). The quartz countertop will be a total of 37" wide so that it holds the whole tank plus an additional 13" of "bar ledge" on the kitchen side. Our dining room table, )that we've never had), will be where the refrigerator is currently in the photos. Because of this we are trying to save a bit of room by not having the whole tank on the kitchen side.
I also want to add that there will be no canopy..i plan to use 4+ par 38s, that hang from the header. Most likely a glass or screen top. The sump will be in the basement.

So drywall is all hung and working on taping now.
Had the electrician run two wires for lighting, (you can see them hanging from the header.) I don't really want to see any cords but I haven't come up with the look I want for padding the header down to hide the outlets.
Elect'rcn also ran one dedicated line for under the cabinet for powerheads etc.

I actually enjoy sheet rockin', but that's a big job! Looks good so far big cat!

DIY LEDs, or just get a bad a$$ fixture and have it boxed in and floating above the tank with accent lights in the top to glow on the ceiling a bit. You could have a little light for the kitchen and the tank all in one sweet fixture. On second thought you can't have my idea I'm going to do it.
