Very happy how things have come along with this project but I'm a bit miffed about what I learned today. When we were ordering the cabinets, I had the rep contact the manufacturer re: a base cabinet holding half the weight of our 120g. She got back to me and said it wouldn't be a problem.

Today I felt the need to contact the manufacturer and ask myself. This afternoon they replied and said it wasn't recommended and if I wanted I could build my own and face it with their stuff..I'm not sure if I'll do that or beef up their cab.

Here's a pic of it.

Looks great! I'd definitely do as the manufacturer suggests and build your own cabinet and face it with their materials. You should try to work with the salesperson to fix his error, you obviously spent a lot of coin with them.

Yeah, thats is nice! The countertops did you send out or route 'em yourself? Are they Corian or granite...Looks great nonetheless.A kitchen like that with the tank in it ,hell I'd want to cook all the time, lol.

Thx guys...Granite Works out of Waverly, NY did the routing and install.

Wow - looking great! What did you end off doing to provide more support in the cabinets? I am jus starting a similar project and want to match our kitchen cabinets too.

Dave

Thx Dave!

I ended up beefing up the cabinet they sent out with 2x4's. I cut an inch and a half swath out of the top of the cabinet and left the same height of the 2x4 exposed above matching the top of the actual cabinet...so everything is on the same plane.

I ran 2x4 legs dwn to the floor of the cabinet. Directly below these corner legs, under the floor plywood, is a 4x4 oak post leftover from a stairs lol. Overkill, yes..also what I happened to have laying around. ;) Oh yea, These are directly behind the toe kick of the cabinet. I decided to keep my new frame back the same depth as the toe kick.

I'll be adding another support leg in the middle on the living room side of the tank. I didn't take in account a couple of variables when I built the length of my frame so I needed to add these 2x4's to the end of the cabinet. I haven't decided how I will finish this..I have lots of options.

Hey I gotta wife for this nonsense!!!!! :lol2:

Srsly, I still have to redo the basement sump area and I want to make an actual fish room. Then I have to figure out the sump I got from you 9 yrs ago, Mark, and how I will set that badboy up.

I'm also waiting for the 150g to come in.
