Fire Shrimp with Seahorses?? Other Tankmates?

I'm thinking about getting a fire shrimp to put in my seahorse tank but according to seahorse.org, fire shrimp can be risky, and you should proceed with caution. Does anyone keep fire shrimp with their seahorses?

Are there any other good tankmates that you would recommend besides pipe fish? They are kinda creepy to me....:sad2:

I've got a fireshrimp in my tank w/ my seahorses. The Fireshrimp is pretty good size and doesn't bother the ponies one bit. I also have a Yasha Haza goby in the tank. Perfect citizen!

I have a fire shrimp in with my erectus, and have for a year now.. Never had a problem. The cleaner shrimp bugs them a bit sometimes, but never the fire shrimp..

My girlfriend has a seahorse tank with a pistol shrimp/watchman goby pair. They are fun to watch.

I think that I will go with the pistol shrimp/watchman goby pair. Are they compatible with fire shrimp? If so, I think that all three would be cool to have!

Whenever you move from a species only tank, there is some additional risk to your seahorses. The severity of that risk depends on the tankmate that is added. Each seahorse owner is comfortable with a certain level of risk, likely based on experience and knowledge (i.e. there are people who will tank a long-owned fish whose species is generally not recommended w/ their seahorses because they know the personality of their particular fish as being atypical for the species and thus they are comfortable with the amount of risk that fish poses to their horses.)

Any kind of cleaner shrimp (which a fire shrimp is) can bother seahorses; owners have seen them groping the pouches of pregnant male horses. Whether this will happen with your fire shrimp...? The tankmate guide was (I believe) designed to convey these potential risks -- ultimately, the decision rests with you.

Do cleaner shrimp hepl pick the parasites off seahorses, the way they do in a fish/reef tank?

Other than appearance, do cleaner shrimp provide any benifits to a SH set up?

-Thanks in advance

 The perverts! :eek1:

(I really like the way you phrased this!)

Well, I picked up a fire shrimp today. We will see if he is a good citizen. If not, he'll be moved to one of my other tanks.

Thanks for all of the replies!

Just curious but what species of seahorse do you have and what siize is your tank?

I have a 75 gal tank that has been set up for several years with zoanthids, palys, leathers, and live rock of course. About a month ago, I added a couple of hippocampus kelloggi seahorses that are doing great! At one point the were dark black, but one is turning a tannish color. The are pretty awesome to watch!

I would definately go with a fireshrimp over a cleaner. Cleaners harass seahorses and will even steal babies from a father's pouch.

My fireshrimp is a small pest to one of my bluespots but nothing that deems removal. Good luck with your tank.
