First online order. How to acclimate

I have seen numerous posts that you cannot drip acclimate a fish. My plan is to fill a bucket a couple inches matching the salinity, then pour both the fish and water into that bucket. Then drip acclimate from my display. They have been floating. Will this work?

uh, not sure what u mean by this statement...however u can definitely drip acclimate fish, its just a more precise way of acclimating the salinity between ur tank and bag.

Easiest way would be leave the bags floating in display or sump (if u have room) and add .25 to .50 ounces of ur tank water into the bag every 5 mins or so for about 20-30 mins so the temp of bag becomes same as ur tank water. u can use a clean turkey baster to do this.

When salinity and temp is same as tank water, put a net on top of a bucket and slowly dump the fish bag with water into the net on the bucket so the net will catch the fish. Then place the fish into ur tank with the net. U don't want to put the water from the bag into the tank.

OK thanks, I will treat an online order just like I do with getting a fish from my LFS and just drip acclimate it while it is in my sump. For some reason I thought different.

It's not the same. A fish from the LFS has been in the bag for an hour or two; a fish bought online is 12-24 hours. Latter builds up ammonia in ways the former does not. The BEST approach is to use a QT and match salinity. Otherwise set up a salinity matched bucket (as you noted in your first text) or just drip and use prime to neutralize the ammonia.

I bought my fish a few days ago and they seem to have acclimated really well :) Here's what I did, I cut the top of the bag open and rolled it down so it had ample air, and set a time of 10 minutes and put the bags into the water to heat acclimate them, and after each 10 minutes I would pour one dixie cup of water from the aquarium into the bag - I did this 5x and then let them into the tank, 3 days and still very healthy fish. However I never ordered them online only through my LFS so I would not be 100% sure if this method would work.

Try the sticky. It's not the temperature, or the ph, generally, but ammonium >> ammoniA.
