LOL! that is my workspace for when I work at home, it's actually quite soothing :D

I have the close the door on the left if I have any conference calls, becuase the noise is a bit much. It's not loud, but the speakerphone picks it up.

I need to post some new pix ;)

I stopped counting after I paid for the tank...came in WAY below budget!

Good luck with the build.

Looking great Bart.

I counted in the beginning before the build started, but not anymore. I also have a full drawer of HD receipt enough to build composition notebook  :rolleye1:.:mixed:

I love the front Bart, I sorta have a regret of not making a front access to my tank, but it still works for me. I've seen other in-walls where the access looked hokie and the lights shine thru. But the cabinet doors are a nice touch.

This pic is from 4-1, I since have addded a couple more fish and softies/LPS:

thanks, but yours doesn't look too bad also. one of my original plans was similar to that look. i needed to have front access on the bottom where sump is located and also on the top where lighting and feeding can be done without having to use the slides most of the time.

gig, I would be in so much trouble if I had a tank like that so close to my desk. My boss wont even let me put a nano in my office because he knows me to well.

the back is pretty much accessible from the 3 sides, I actually put a long mirror in front of the tank, setup on a ladder. That was I can look thru the back when I need to re-aquascape, etc....However when I need to get something in the front of the tank, it takes a long reach.

Gig your tanks looks nice. I read you thread and have a similar idea. I am going to build a wall and have my office/ fish room on the other side. SO it will be nice to take a break and look or play with the tank when I work form home. That has got to be sweet ..You can just look up from your desk and yeaaaahhhhhh...

thanks eric, yes...it's definately nice :)

PS - I'll try and post some updated pics on my thread tomorrow.

Bart, sorry, I didn't mean to hijack your thread! ;)

ok some more work done today and here are the updates.
first thing was to assemble all 3 LM3 reflectors which my 3yrs. old baby volunteer to help and how convenience that the guy sell them on ebay is located down here and had them hand delivered to me. next was to cut aluminum to fit the slides which I had to be extra careful to have the holes drilled just right if not the slides will not work properly even if I am off about 1/4" or so. of course I am not completely done yet and extra supports will also be installed to hold them in place making them more sturdy since I cant afford to have any mistake as kids are around the house. MH are powered by 3 PFO Single HQI 400watts ballast w/14k hamilton. these babies are so bright it feel like I have no roof just direct sunlight.:eek1::eek2:

and of course way cheaper then DFS. I will make another ordered soon but need to know if anyone is using red sea coral pro here and any good feedbacks.

Looks awesome with the lights!

My only recommendation, I can see some light peeking thru the cracks on top, I would but something behind the doors (rubber, felt?) that will block out any stray light, as it will take away from the tank. You might have already planned this though :D

thanks, but foam weatherstrip was already installed on the other doors but ran out so I have to make another trip to HD. I just wanted to powered the lights to give me general idea what I needed to do next.

looking good. it seems like you have designed in the ability to move the reflectors left and right within the light box and I think that is really cool. very nice work. :)

thanks Jonathan, i will also have them secure down from the top just to be on the safe side too since the last thing i need is send my livestock to get executed  :smokin: . i will add 3 more MH pendents in the front and the dimensions i have to work with is 22"L x 12"W so Lumenarc will be out. i will need to research some more pendents. my original plan was to have 6 400 watts MH and addtional VHO down the middle for supplement. will this be to much lighting since tank will mainly sps and 30lbs clam would also be nice directly in the front :mixed:?

I just read this entire thread and that is an awesome tank! I used to work for Franz, great guy, awesome builder too! More Pics!

how deep and what are the length and width again?

I would suggest getting to know other reefs of the same dimensions and seeing what they are using and how they look. Sanjay's site may be of help too. Steve Weast's tank is 30" and he uses 400W and mine is 35" and I use 1000W, but mine are on movers. It seems to be playing out though that mine are too bright for most non-SPS corals as I have had trouble keeping LPS and softies. Even ricordia have a tough time and I have yet to be able to keep them alive.
