Fish Planet

In the past year, I have hit most LFS between Redding and Tucson. They all suck and they all rock. Depends.

FP w/Matt is an improvement. Johnathan Mee has the biologee background, pedigree, and monee. Matt is a hardcore reefer. Chaos now, give it time, should come around.

Paul, I know you wanted to jump in and say something.

The important thing for us all to remember is that this is a MARS forum, and not just a Sacramento forum. These LFS contribute heavily to our club through their generosity we are able to have some nice raffles each month, which in turn gets more reefers to come to our meeting.

If somebody screws you, let us know. If a LFS isn't as good as another, we don't care. Tell your friends, PM people, but leave the negativity for the sake of negativity out of the club forum.

One might argue that a newbie could buy sick fish and the LFS should educate people. I'd suggest that good advertisement for the club will get the newbies to come to our meetings and we can help them identify ich and unhealthy corals for themselves, and they in turn can educate their friends.

End soap box...

While I am not one for censorship, I do feel that there is a little savviness needed by all when sharing ideas and opinions (good or ill). Unfortunately, meaning can be lost in translation using a message board like RC, so extra care should be taken so that your message does not come across as ignorant, offensive, or misinformed (or all the above?) Mom was wrong - 'if you don't have anything nice to say...' is BS. We are all adults (well most of us), and sharing a bad experience or an unpopular message is just dandy - as long as you do it with class and recognize that there are opinions other than your own. They may be wrong of course, but at least the very act of recognizing your fellow reefer goes a long way to a healthy dialog.

With that - Long live Fish Planet, and go Matt! :D

Well Pbetito, NO I am not affiliated with JoJo's aquariam. Name has been with me much longer than the shop has been around.
As for it being personal well....... I guess you can say it kinda was. For the bad CS and all the sick fish, I would not want newbies or others going home with new fish and have them die the next day.
But this was no way a bashing just a good ol' Warning Be
Careful. It's not easy to see them dead in a store, but even worse to have to flush then at home.
(even though all drains leads to the Ocean) :)

"Marko9"........
As far as the bashing goes, Yes that may be my son but that was straight up bashing him one on one! As for him, he would in no way say anything Rude to anyone on here or stand up for how he really felt because he is a GOOD KID!
But what the Reefers said to him was wrong!
I was merely stating what I saw, That's all. I suppose I was a little harsh on a scale of 10 comment. But when it comes to customer service, that is a big deal to me. To have just been left standing there and not ask what I needed is not good.

I guess I am spoiled by the customer service I receive at YR, and Coral Reef.
So with that all said I suppose this Newbie/Lady Fish will have to mind her manners and leave the Reef Central to My son as not to give Him a bad Name!

I have met you son a few times and he is a good kid. He also Pm'd me about a tank I had. If you read that thread, you will not find me bashing a kid because he place a blue tang in a nano. I did not agree with what was going on.
I have made plenty of mistakes in my life. Maybe this thread would of not turned out the way it did if neither one of us had writtin in the way we did. I have no problem with you, your son, or any other reefer out there. I have seen it to many times when a "stranger" comes on this forum and throws mud in my face about one of my local resources. I guess I have been around just long enough to see how negative fish threads turn out. This one included, shame on me

My views are personal views and no way match or speak for the group as a whole and are not sponsored by the Marine Rountable Aquarist of Sacramento or any other affliated groups or members :)

i think the old saying is true...have a good experience you tell 1 person...have a bad one tell 10...

I am glad to hear you are a nice family but that is no excuse for coming into the clubs forum with no posts whatsoever and blasting a local store that is in the middle of changing their saltwater section. Maybe your first post should be hi guys I am new... my name is... my expierience is..... Not Hi guys this place I went to sucks!!

"I would have to say that the help pretty much sucked also. My husband was asked if we had any questions and he told him I did. In which case the guy turned around and left did not even ask me what I needed."

If you came off as agressively and rude as you did on this post I applaud them for ignoring you. While I shop at CRS and YR all the time I still respect other stores and don't feel the need to go out of my way to bash them and say things such as they suck. What sucks is the way you posted this, hence the overwhelming amount of posts in response to this nonsense.

Lastly I would like to use all of the attention you gave Fish Planet to say... Matt is going to pick up a new shipment of corals and fish this weekend. There should be lots of nice pieces at LOW PRICES!!!!! Please continue to stop by and see the rapid progress of the turn around we are witnessing. Keep up the good work and we look forward to seeing you more Matt :D

Thanks for the Free Publicity opportunity JoJobme!!!

Wait until tuesday when Matt comes back with his shipment :)

I still haven't checked this place out myself looks like Tuesday or Wednesday i need to finally make my visit. Thanks Paul

They just got a small shipment of corals/fish today. I saw maybe 5-8 bags of corals and as many for fish. Oh, and they just got in another batch of Euro Reef skimmers and I saw a few calc reactors as well as a couple of pallets that havent been unloaded with more sand/odds and ends. Over the last 3 weeks I've probably seen $20k in product make its way over the shelves.

Matts's finally got the Koi tank fully(I think) set up and ready for corals, so that must be where his tuesday shipment is going. I'll be there at lunch wednesday to see what they got.

No Bashing please, everyone should appeciate the amount of stores we have in sac area.I used to live in Napa and I had to drive over an hour just to get to some saltwaer stores. We are very lucky to have all of the great stores we have.!!!If you do not like a store do not bash it just do not go there or try it again someday,as I think every store has a bad day once in a while.I have went to one store one day and thought man these fish look bad but went there a couple of days later and evrything looked awesome. As for customer service good help is very hard to find.Just my opinion, Chris

Nice read :) And I like hearing all of your opinions, great insight to you and where your coming from.

I havent been to this store personally yet as time and convenience havnt touched bases yet. Am I or will I expect much? Naw, not much of a fish guy. Learn to live and love what I got in that regards. Mostly because once you stock a tank with fish, your pretty much done. Unless you have some lazy husbandry skills and the turnover in your system is high  So having a open spot is pretty rare, but have recently moved a couple to another tank and am back on the open market for something a little exotic. That being said am thankfull FP is a viable option, albeit an unlikely one due to geographics.

I think the intentions of the original poster were sincere and with merit, but petes97 did touch down on the undeniable element of this being a MARS forum, and has been established that MARS is not in the business of store bashing, and rightly so as it would be looking a gift horse in the mouth.

Although with sincere intentions, it would be naive to think that this is the only store that has had fish with ich or ill fish, infact theres not a store that I havent witnessed this in, goes hand in hand with dealing with large quantities of fish especially when the LFS is the second to last person to get the fish. Even the best of the best get bad shipments, or equipment malfunctions resulting in less than visually appearing circumstances. This can be said for every store here in the greater Sacramento area from one person or another depending on that particular instance and wrinkle in time or what and when this particular person was looking for at that time. Every dog has it's day, and every store accomodates a certain niche of the market.

Bottom line, it's the enthusiasts responsability to educate themselves. It's our educated dollar that will dictate the flow of the market. Sick and dead fish wouldnt be for sale if no one was buying right:eek:?

Your talking to a pretty tough crowd, I'll be the first to vouch for that:D Hope it does not deter you from hanging out with us. You'd be floored how nice we all are in person!:lol2:

I second Justin on this one, most people here are nice, once you get to know them or they get to know you,
I really hope you guys stick around

That, and we are just beginning to rebuild the relationships with the local fish stores that have been damaged by posts like this in the past. True or not, detailing bad experiences about the LFS hurts MARS as a group, even if I tend to agree with the observations.

For all of the above posts......thank you greatly for choosing an attitude which will strengthen our relationships with the LFS. This kind of attitude will continue to grow and we along with the LFS will surely benefit.
