Fish Survival poll

It would be interesting/important to know what percentage (roughly) of the fish that people add to their tanks survive for more than a few weeks. If we had a general idea of what the survival rate is, individual hobbyists could compare their results and get an idea of how they are doing.

Really nothing to brag about as im totally new never-the-less I'm at 3 weeks with my clown, one week with my blenny. No issues or signs with either, both eat like pigs. My snowflake eel lasted maybe a month, never seemed right and never seemed to eat much. He's gone, was a crappy start to the hobby glad things are better now.

If the fish make it through QT then my survival rate is almost 100% - not including jumpers. Only seen one fish die to disease (swim bladder infection).

Anemones seem to be hard to survive in captivity to me. All other items do fine. Rare losses overall but with anemones I am about 50/50. I have had some for years so I suspect its just the captivity adjustment and not what I am doing.

I think anemones do better in a well established tank. I have about a 98% success rate with fish.

*black clownfish - about 6 years and still going strong
*six line - clownfish harassed it to death at about 2 years
*percula clowns (2, one may have been wild and the other tank bred, I cant remember) - One had some kind of weird ick (guess which one) and lasted a couple of months, the other lasted longer but was killed in a tank crash.
*royal gramma- lasted a few months, killed in same tank crash.

So, all in all, i've got a 4 out of 5 new fish success rate.

I have many fish who have lived for years. Biggest threat to mortality is disease followed by harassment.

100% success with keeping fish, with the exception of a wrasse that jumped... I've saved a pygmy angel and a black clown after jumping also... my water quality took a down turn and they all tried to jump in the span of a week.

all the fish that i have added to my tank have come from other tanks, and they are all at least 3-4 years old if not older

I'm still new but my first fish I ever bought (percula clownfish) has lasted for almost 2 months now with no problems I'm SO... happy.
Everything else has been pretty good but that little guy is the longest survivor

Depends. I've had 100% successes and 100% failures but generally the failures are due to mistakes and bad maintenance. QT tanks need water changes twice a week due to teh lack of biofiltration but I do have LR in mine with a few sponges. UV does help and of course a skimmer (I use an HOB skimmer).

But if you're careful and keep the water quality good you should have a good success rate. Generally if the fish make it the first week in QT they should see it though the whole 7 week hypo cycle.

I have had only 1 fish not last over 2 weeks. And I should have never bought him in the first place because he wasn't eating at the LFS. That was my first and last impulse buy.
