flame angel acclimation?

HI, I have decided to buy a flame angel tomorrow I just need some advice on acclimating it, as i have heard they don't acclimate well I'm just trying to make the transition as smooth as possible for the fish.

1. I will be adding him to QT first, will drip method for 1 hour be okay or longer?

2. what are the chances of it being caught with cyanide? Should I add methylene blue as a precaution?

3. Is there any other steps/requirements that I have missed or should do?

Thanks in advance, lewis:)

No copper or hypo treatment.

Tank transfer preferred

I personally feel that they are sensitive fish, similar to freshwater tropheus cichlids.
I have seen bloat in flame angels as well.

I leave and unopened back in the sump to get the temp equilibration and do a quick drip. If salinity is match you don't really need to drip him.
After long shipment, there will me ammonia and CO2 in the bag. Open this bag and CO2 will escape into the air and increase the pH of the water. At increase pH the ammonia is a lot more toxic. Long drip in these case increase the fish exposure to toxic ammonia. Also in slow long drip, the temp of the fish container will drop and will be much lower than the tank. A small container of water after will reach room temp quickly, slow drip will not be able to keep it at tank temp.

For getting fish into the tank, long drip is not helpful but is detrimental to the fish.

Great info thanks, so how long do you recommend I acclimate him for? Is it worth adding methylene blue incase of cyanide? Should I add a piece of LR from the DT to let him graze of of it?

Thanks in advance, lewis

OrionN is spot on! The drip acclimation process is not the best.

Call the store or the seller, ask what his salinity is set at, most stores and online vendors set at 1.019-1.020.

Set your QT to that salinity today.

Float the bag for 30 mins.

Open bag, transfer with as little water as possible from the bag.

Over next week, bring salinity up to 1.026 with a few water changes.

If it's been effected by cyanide, nothing will help the fish.

+1

Drip acclimation causes more harm than good in many cases. Matching QT salinity with that of the transport bag, followed by temperature acclimation as noted above is the best method for ensuring your livestock does not go through acclimation shock.
