Flame Angel Diet

Hello,

I've just purchased a Flame Angel and was curious to know if the collections/handling method of them are now humane. I was told mine was from the Christmas Islands or something like that.

In terms of the diet, I have read that they are grazzers and eat pretty much anything. Mine has gotten more comfortable, after being freed from their small containers at the LFS.

I've bought some frozen formula as I'm unable to get it to eat flakes. It's been about a few days though.

Thanks.

I feed Nori daily and my Flame eats it, along with a Tomini Tang, Flasher Wrasse, and Starry Blenny. The Flame also eats pellets and whatever frozen food in on the menu.

Feed it Rods, mysis and other meaty seafoods, in addition to nori and spirulina. It may take a while for the fish to start eating flakes and/or pellets.

It seems to have developed a nip for the CYCLOPEEZE and other flakes, but it won't chomp on them like my clowns. She loves to nip at it though, sometimes she'll eat.

I"ll give it more time. it seems to have settled in.

IMO, Christmas Island is a great source for fish, especially Flame Angels. The FAs from Indonesia and The Phillipiines are another story. Diet is pretty standard for FAs, they should eat about anything. A lot of folks seem to think these fish are herbivores; but they're omnivores and need plenty of meaty stuff as well as veggies. IMO & IME, these fish need lots of MATURE LR to thrive.

Not to get off topic but how is this fish as far as nipping at corals in your tank?

I had one of these years ago in a reef but I can't even remember how the tank was stocked at the time or if I had problems with it. Love these little guys though.
