Flame hawk + lysmata shrimp experiences ?

We aquired a flame hawfish from a fellow reefer as part of a larger buyout. We are trying to decide if he would go into our 380 (with 5 peppermints and 1 skunk cleaner shrimp, all pretty good sized), or if we will need to go into our sump until we find him a good (better suited) home.

So any and all experiences with Flame Hawks in tanks with cleaner shrimp are welcomed.. Please share your experiences with us to help us decide.

Thanks :)

I had different hawks in my tank a rather large white/red hawk and a long nose hawk.. housed with 5 Peps, 2 Blood, 2 cleaner and a CB shrimp... both never bother them.. but they were put in way after the shrimps established them selves.. also is a MUST that you keep the hawks well fed to prevent them from dining on your shrimps... mine were all together in just a 55 gal.

I've heard of other stories of other people having the same experience like mine but also heard of REALLY bad stories...

good luck..

Mike,
Yea, even though I feel that it would "get along" for now, I just know that down the road it could be a problem. So it was relegated to the sump last night. Look for a FS thread soon.. and one for the other fish that didn't make it into our tank, an oblique lined dottyback (two beautiful fish that just don't fit our long term plans for the tank :()

EDIT : I am just tired and cranky.. bad back kept me up all night

Right now there are only 3 fish in there (the sump). The two listed and a chromis (from the same buyout). Ending up in there still beats ending up getting flushed, so I think that they don't have any compaints about their current accomdations :)

Misunderstood my post is what I'm going with as I have sumped more then my share of fish ;)

Any fish in a refugium by definition turns said box into a sump as there is not refuge for the animals and plants when you have a preditor in place ;)

You can't edit your post after I start on mine  Makes mine look out of place :D

sorry bout that Gresh.. I just felt the need to curtail the attitude in my original post just a bit :)

Bear in mind that these fish were not specifically bought by us. They came as part of a tank buyout yesterday, and we were just trying to assess which ones we could keep and which ones we would need to put up for sale. The future FS ones went into the sump, until we could find them new homes. It is jsut unfortunate that the two most beautiful fish of the lot were the ones that we won't be putting into our tank :(. Our tank is way too "non-aggressive" and we already have several shrimp, a geomatric hawk (not a true hawk, I know) and an orchid dottyback, so there were several reasons that neither of these fish would be good additions to our tank. Seeing that the oblique lined dottyback goes for between $130 - $150 online, and is a magnificent looking fish, it truly saddens me that we can't add it :(. And I personally have always loved the hawkfish, and this flame hawk is one of the more colorful ones I have seen :( :(

more like chromi .. there is only 1. It is small to medium in size, not the large ones like you are looking for :)

Yah that dotty is a nice one :) I wasn't kidding about having a FO sump, you have the room :) We could get you one more sump the same size ;) I have one reserved still :D

I had considered one more to use as a WC sump.. but to be honest I don't know where I would put it. I have some ideas, but not sure I am willing to give up the realestate in the fish room for it yet, but it would be nice to be able to do the WCs more easily (I might actually end up doing them more often :)).
