Flash Experimentation

Did you have the flash on the hotshoe or external? I'll find some of my flash pictures and post them too.

Nice Aaron. Play with them. It's really nice being able to control them with the camera. I use these.

I have the ring to mount them to the front of the lens, but use them off that a bit too. I use the mini tripods as holders.

That's some nice kit.

Love your shots.. how do you like the d600?

Thanks, I love it. ISO performance is incredible compared to the D7000 I had. Most of my photos are shot at 2000 ISO with minimal noise, you have to zoom in 1:1 to really see it and Lightroom makes easy work of it.

Thank you Krazy, had another play earlier and used the diffuser. Makes things nice and soft.

In the process of downgrading my tank so probably be the last chance I get for a while.

great pics, makes me want do some experiments with my equipment.

do you have any other clues to using flashes through the glasspanel other than putting the lens flat to it? are your lights turned on? have you tried flashing from the top of the tank?

thanks, greetings! martin

Hi Martin.

I've had very little time to experiment further and my tank is going to be drained next week so not much to photograph left. These were done with my main lights on, the flash completely drowns it out. I will be trying it from above when I next do stock pics for my LFS.

Cheers.

I was thinking for upgrading my d700 to the d600 but I still don't know if its worth the upgrade :D
And I still need to invest on a macro lens to... another expensive hobby lol

I'd spend the money on some glass if it was me, D7000 is an excellent camera. The upgrade to FX is pointless if you don't have decent glass in the first place or you have DX lenses. Best off getting a macro lens for your 7000 IMO.

I prefer the Acan with no flash. It does help filling in shadows.

Personally I don't think it does much for corals. If you look at the Alvepora in the pics above and here it looks much better.
