Hello reefers,

I have a stupid question. My lfs has 'freshwater flounder' for sale. Theyre small nothing over 2" for about three bucks each. I was wondering if these guys can be converted to full marine ?? Ive heard of people doing it but i cant find any information. Ive converted mono's and scats before, just not sure if this is compatible to saltwater. The reason im asking is because i am interested in keeping a flounder in my FO but i dont want anything thats going to get huge. Ive heard these guys wont get any bigger than 5in ...

Any ideas ???

They are usually Hog Chokers which breed up rivers and the fresher water ends of salt marshes. I've seen them collected in waters with SG's of any where from 2ppt to 27ppt, so they are very tolerant of a wide range of salinity. I'd take a couple of days to bring it up to full marine ;) Oh, and yes around 5-6 inches is average for them as an adult.

I had one for several years in full salt. Nice fish, never bothered anything, cleaned up extra food the seahorses didn't get. It did great, until the day it jumped out of an uncovered tank. Just take your time acclimating to full salt.
