Flourite Black Sand for marine algae?

I was thinking of starting a new tank with some gracilaria spp and ulva spp. I'll probably put some small shrimp in as well.

Most of the reviews I've read on Flourite Black Sand was about freshwater planted tanks, with root and all that. Does anyone have experience in using this sand with marine algae, particularly with the above mentioned species?

Substrate is a non factor for macro algae. They pull their nutrients from the water column, not the substrate. Seagrasses, however, are plants with true roots and require more nutritive media.

Sam is right, cheeseballs. Maybe you're looking for an excuse to use black sand? There are black sands available. Could look cool! Like a lava sand Hawaiian lagoon. Go for it, cheeseballs!

yeah give it a try I was thinking about doing the same...just keep in mind alot of the black Hawaiian sand is magnetic. donlt let it get caught in your cleaning magnet.
