Flow planning

Kernel Panic

Hi Roger,
I have a flow question for you. I am setting up a 125(60"x24"x20"). I am planning on a mixed reef to include some reef safe wrasse that will require a sand bed of at least 2-3". I had originally decided on two 6000 on a multicontroller, however that was before I decided on the wrasse and sand bed. I have a center trapezoidal overflow. I am planning two islands for aquascaping (back right and front left) with a channel in between.

With two 6000, I am worried about sand blowing everywhere. Is this setup problematic? Should I consider 3 or 4 nanostreams instead?

Thanks,
Kevin

That is a tough call, 2 6000's could definitely do the job and for less energy consumption than 3-4 Nanostream 6055 as well as less up front cost. I would probably go with the 6000's but sand bed disturbance is possible and will largely depend on pump placement and program selected as well as the type of sand. Heavier pool filter sand or the 2-3mm aragalive type stuff will probably give the best results.

I know the nanostreams are not out yet, so you may not know, but would there be less problem with the sand bed running 3-4 nano's than with the regular streams? The price isn't that much of an issue as I won't have to buy magnet's for the nano's. Any price difference would be worth the decreased visual footprint of the nano's.
