For the love of Genicanthus

Anyone have experience with male lamarck angel?
I got a trio recently, One is a sub-male, with full black pelvic fins, and two smaller females...

The size of the sub-male is double the size of the females..

One of the female is bigger than the other female, and acting dominant over the smaller one... And the sub male is ignoring the two females and not much interaction..

Will the sub-male turn to a female if it dont feel dominant over the two female...

Is the sub male larger than the bigger female ? if not you could be in for a bumpy ride. Could also be they are not a true trio.. just grouped together to sell that way. I asked about the size because i added a smaller full male swallowtail in with a larger female. besides beatin its butt all to hell it also turned back to female within a month . so I have 1 big female and 1 beatup lookin (permanent fin damage) little female. keep an eye on them for a while. just trying to help.... good luck

+1 (basically)...my male Lamarck, got so big...both my male Zebra, and M Bellus reverted back to Females.

The sub male is the biggest out of the trio... It is double the size of the females...

The sub male is around 4 inch and the two female is 3 inch and 2 inch...

So this is my last Genicanthus to say...

And they are not sold as a trio, I bought the Male first den I bought the 2 female on the second day...

Other than half shell, what foods will get them to get started on feeding...
The Male is not really eating alot and picking food of the sandbed which is not a lot and it is ignoring the half shell whereas the females goes crazy over the half shell...

Because of this post, I fell in love with the Swallowtail Angels so I went out and bought the Watanabei trio from DD. Should arrive this coming Wed.

It will be the first fish going in a 135g (72x18x24) but before that, it will be QTed in an established (2 years) tank with some LR. Planning to see how they are doing 1st and then give them 2 rounds of Prazipro and if necessary, a round of hypo salinity.

Any advice you guys can give me on getting these guys acclimated the right way? Also know that they are accustomed to dim lighting.

Silly question, since they are sold as a trio, should I drip acclimate them together in a 5g bucket or should I acclimate them separately?

Will try to post pics once they are acclimated.

I dripped mine all together in the styrofoam box they were shipped in. I also set the lid across it to keep them calmer in the dim light. Of course, once acclimated, the (QT) tank lighting was also turned off for introduction, as was the DT lighting.

I know the Wantanabie Angels can change from female to male, does anyone know if the Bellus can as well? The reason I ask is I have a female already and the LFS has two other females. I never see a male.

yes the all can do it ! but be careful if you get another female as they will fight to see who is dominant.

Thanks a lot, I'll do just that.
