For those who dose Vodka...

Got tubes?
Hi all!

Googling around today (yes, "google" is a verb :D ), I stumbled across Marc Levenson's thread on Vodka dosing. Well, its a part of his build thread, but I thought the way he was doing it was really neat. Personally, I am probably still going to eventually automate it with a peristaltic pump and a multi-timer on my controller, but this is effective none the less. :)

That's funny I just shoot my Vodka in area with strong flow in my sump all in about 3 seconds and have never seen any Ill effects from It. I do split up my dose in the AM and PM though as to spread it out in two applications Maybe your trying to make It to complicated? Works fine the old fasion way, squirt it in and go about your bussiness and It's cheaper that way too JMO.

The crap that people put in their tanks amaze me.
Who figured this out? Who would have thought to try putting Vodka in a tank? Was it a mistake....like someone with a problem asked another reefer, and he mentioned getting a bottle of vodka to solve their problems....but he didn't really mean to dump it in the tank?!

Who would have thought of smoking a rhino's horn to get high? Who was the first to try it? What else did they try and failed to get a result?
Or, injecting a poison into your face to kill muscles.....only to lose wrinkles? I wonder if they ever tried transmission fluid? Or semen from chipmunks?

These types of questions cloud my precious few brain cells, when I should be working....

The number one thing that prevents me from trying vodka dosing is that I am not disciplined enough with a set enough schedule to manually dose vodka.

I've automated everything I can in my tank and there are a few more things I'd eventually like to get into (2-part with a peristaltic), but I know I'll end up causing more problems in the long run if I'm not consistent.

The problem is everything else I need to automate is going to cost me an arm and a leg.

You better change your avatar brian or brandon is gonna flip out on you :p

Its not like vodka is snake oil. There is a reason people add it, and its not because its was the 63rd thing they tried that day. Once you are satisfied with being able to keep these corals and fish comfortably, its fun to see how far you can take it. Carbon dosing can yield impressive results, vodka is a DIY carbon dosers zeovit.

Mark, that was hilarious. :)

Whatever Chuck.

Brian, when you gonna change your avatar?

:D

Brandon <--- is a bit high on reef life (not reefer) at the moment from getting a new skimmer. :D

Huh? :)

Just because I represent more than you doesn't mean you need to be a hater

Brandon, are you talking about the way he's dripping it? I have a few of those feeding tube bags just like he used, you have to be a medical professional to get them (although, since it's not IV, I don't think it's THAT hard), but I won 20 or 30 of them off ebay for like 50 cents shipped each. If someone needs one, I think I could dig them up.

Yep! I was just talking about how he dripped it. :)

I'm not sure what you mean by the bags, though... he used bags?

i had considered using these for that purpose

Oh, ok.... gotcha, Matt.

James... how in the world are you planning on slowing the drip down without blocking the shrimp??? ;)

i'm just going by that BRS says the item i linked is made for slow-feeding of the brine & they also suggest it for dripping 2-part

But that doesn't mean they recommend it for slow dripping shrimp.

;)

If I'm not mistaken, those products are designed so that as they hatch, the brine just simply swim out. :)
