Forrest's Reef Tank Build

Looks nice with light inside! Nicely done.

Back to lighting for a minute. I was comparing the Photon 48 to some OR models and for the price of the Photon, you get a controller for ramp up/down. Now, the more I read about this the less interesting it seems to me. You use this to ramp up to 100% for roughly an hour or 2 and then ramp down. Mean while, you are most likely at work and I don't think the corals even care about the ramping of the lights they just want food to grow.

With the OR fixtures, I am going to get 1 for each tank. Have the blues come on at the correct % in the morning, then have the whites come on a few hours later with the correct %, and then turn them off 6-8hrs later and leave the blues on for a few more hours. Dawn/midday/duck is what it seems like to me. I don't need a ramp in intensity because lets face it, I am not here to look at it and the corals I think really don't care.

I do agree with this, are you talking about the new arctic model? The kicker is I'd still need two of those. And the 32 inch which I was looking at was almost the same price as the RB. so I'm still debating it! Looking into reviews and coverage and the such.

Yeah, the T247s with the Digital Dimmer and LCD screen with 2 built in timers and a remote control. If you put 2 T247s over both sides of your 75 you would get great coverage. Adjustable by raising and lowering the fixtures and they can be tilted to an angle for better spread.

And they are going to be 199 aren't they? But is that shipped?

Ok.

And secondly sadly couldn't find any new t5 bulbs in town. Though one of the 10k I have is super bright the other is a bit dull, so I'm thinking the one may be ok.

And lastly I have added my first two coral inhabitants, though they are not picture worthy. An experiment really, my dad had a bubble coral get sucked into a power head that fell, so I'm going to try to bring it back, also a notoriously hard coral, an elegance. It's about half way gone. Also just trying to see if I can't get them to pull through.

For those interested here's a picture of the two corals I'm going to make an attempt at saving.

any thoughts or recommendations?

Everything looks good so far! This is a fun thread to follow. If your two damaged corals survive, they may perk up under your new lights when they arrive. If they don't, don't feel too bad the tank is still new and they are pretty bad off right now.

Thanks man! I'm enjoying keeping it updated! And yes I figured they had a better shot at least at trying to pull through then just poopin out and dieing.

What in the world is with all the Maryland people on here lately. Sheesh. Hope those things do bounce back. That would be 2 awesome corals to start with.

Thank goodness I'm not in MD anymore. Moved to NOVA about 9 months ago.

But related, I'm gonna be drilling my tank and gluing my sump tonight. Woohoo!! Thanks for all the updates and info so far.

Of course. And that's awesome! Make sure you let your silicone set for the full 48 hours before doing anything else.

Roger that. Thanks. Got the middle baffle in and the over-flow drilled. But I don't wanna troll this thread so I'll start a new one.

Starting to look like though it may take a long time to grow bubbles back, the bubble may make it, still a lot of flesh that looks like its inflating, and a lot of tentacles coming out. The elegance looks about the same as it did.

QT is still spiked on nitrites.

I bought an Everclear IT2080 32 inch, after talking to a bunch of people who loved it. Seems to be the same as the OR one. I'm very excited.
