Fortunato's Anemone Collection

I agree with you 100% about running carbon. Mine have done so well after adding fresh carbon to my reactor. I think it's really important if your keeping multiple Nems in one tank.

Right now I have 6 Mags, 2 gigs, and a Haddoni in my tank.

Yeah I know it's risky to keep multiple species, however, I think I've been pretty successful in the past and presently. The biggest factor, IME, is to keep carbon running at all times. I know I made mistakes in the past where I got lazy in order new carbon because for whatever reason I thought it wasn't making much difference but after 2 months of not running carbon with all my anemones, I noticed they all started going downhill. Now I know that it is probably the single most important thing to run if I plan on keeping all these anemones so I will not be making that mistake again. That's why my blue Haddoni is in the condition it's in, didn't change carbon and bam it bleached. Honestly it made out better than a mag and BTA that actually ended up passing instead of just bleaching.

I have no idea what my nitrates are but I don't want to change anything now that things are doing very well, not to mention, I have a pretty big Squamosa along with a Derasa and 2 Maximas so I don't want to cause any detrimental affects towards the clams by bringing everything down too sharply.

Thank you for the compliment!

Yeah I know about the silverside issue actually but I could not find anything else at my LFS so I just went with silversides. I know they are bony and could cause damage so as soon as I'm done with this pack, I'll feed something else. I was thinking either table shrimp or clams from SFB. What do you guys feed?

Try this, I love it. Pick it up at your local grocery store.

OK thanks reefaholic, I'll look for that around me, hopefully I can find it. What's in it in case I don't?

Also, a big question I've been asking myself because I want to buy it in bulk...what kind of carbon do you use? I got esv at the moment

me running full zeo so i use zeo carbon. its very mild

I was thinking of getting the 5 gallon bucket of BRS ROX 0.8 but it's so expensive and honestly idk if I should but that much. The esv one lasted me about 3 months and it was only 1/2 gallon I think. Then again, idk how much carbon I should be running and how often I should be changing it. I shoot for about a month on changing it and maybe 5-6 cups in terms of quantity. Do you anemone pros run GFO as well?

Minh, I'm mostly interested in your husbandry since we seem to have the same mixture of livestock (clams and anemones)

My system is about 450 gal total with sump and frag tank.
I try to change water weekly or every 2 weeks about 50 gal Instance Ocea. I do feed heavy.
About 1 time a month I change my GAC and GFO in the reactor from BRS. I buy the 1 gal carbon and GFO from BRS. I used about 4 table spoon per change.
I had these but did not use them u\much until I see that the water have the yellow tinted to it. Since using it I am much happier with the coloration of the tank. No problem so I keep on using it.
I do dose Kalk top off with a Kalk reactor and have a Ca reactor. Both of these keep my Ca and Alk high Alk of about 3.25 mEQ and Ca at about 400-450. My SPS and Clams are growing very well.

Gary is way too big a chicken to manually split mine. I have had a few divisions over the years, and I think feeding may have been a contributing factor to naturally dividing-- but I've always been too chicken to actually cut one.
