Foxface vs Carpet Anemone

Has anyone had any problems with a carpet anemone (8 inches open) eat fish in the tank? I had a Coris Wrasse that was on its last leg and it swam right in the mouth of the anemone. I woke up this morning and my 5" Foxface lo was in the mouth of the anemone with his spines in the anemone.. The anemone spit it out and I was able to pull it out but it was too late, Foxy was dead.. but it now seems that the anemone is a fish eater.. Any suggestions or ideas? ALso can the venomous spines of the Foxface affect the anemone... The spines were fully exposed and a few were there the anemone.... Thanks!

S. haddoni's (assuming this is the type of carpet you have) are known fish eaters. Either get used to your fish being eaten or get the carpet out of the tank.

40 gallon tank.. I have had the anemone in the tank for about 3 months.. No problems before until last night and this morning.... The anemone has been flourishing along with the other corals and fish in the tank...

Surely all large anemones are fish eaters,,, why does this continue to surprise people?

It's like folk who buy a pit-bull and act all surprised when it rips someone's face off. Nature of the beast guys!

Sorry,, rant over.

juck, its sad that ppl like u , dont know that dogs reflect their owners, any dog can rip your face off. if the dog has a poor owner,, the dog will be poorly traned.

on the other hand, a tomato clown will rip into your finger ,,, but you cant train that..

ignorince is bliss..lol

lol,,, touched a nerve there I think.

Touched a nerve with me too. I have an AmStaff/boxer mix, and he is the most lovable dog you will ever meet. Pitbulls are some of the best family dogs, but they need a proper owner. They are also probably the stronger dogs, especially for their size. We should shoot bad owners, not bad dogs.

Damn, someone shoot me I am off-topic.

Of all host anemones, S. haddoni is the worst (or best) fish eater. It is recommended that they are keep in species tank with clown fish that naturally hosted by them. (Other clown fish can be eatten also)

I do have two ocellaris clowns in this tank that host my carpet. I have never had any problems with them being eaten. My carpet is a whitesh grey color with slightly white lines. I hope this might help someone identify my carpet. Thanks....

Deleted due to not wanting to start an online argument :) Suffice it to say, as someone who used to work with attack dogs, that I don't let my kids alone with ANY dog that I don't know well.

Of the 279 dog-attack fatalities in the USA between 1979 and 1996, dogs identified as "pit bulls" were responsible for 60 attacksâ€"just over a fifth; followed by Rottweilers, responsible for 29 attacks (statistics from the CDC).

Sounds like you have a haddoni carpet. Once the clowns are acclimated to the anemone, there isn't much danger of them being eaten. On very rare occations a clown will dive right in without acclimating to the anemone and be eaten.
