Foxface?

I am interested in a foxface but I have concerns. Is there a type of Foxface I should go after which is better than others in a reef? Also, and luck with them eat GHA? Thank you

I've had my Mag foxface for almost two years now in my reef with no issues. It never did eat any GHA in my tank though.

I think they are all about the same when it comes to snacking on corals and will be an individual fish thing. Keeping them full will help. My foxface is a pig and eats everything and anything but hasn't touched any of my LPS. I can't find an algae he won't eat even some calcium based ones that fish aren't supposed to like.

My magnificent foxface is magnificent.

Foxface is a great fish. My Mag has been nipping at the Xenia, but that's a good thing!! I think most tangs and fox faces eat hair algae but only in the early stages. Once it gets some growth they don't touch it.

You're braver than I am. I have a foxface (Siganus vulpinus) and when I put the seaweed sheets in I don't let the little rat get anywhere near my hand.

But, he's a great fish... never seen him eat any of my corals and he adds a lot of personality to my tank.

:lolspin: Yep, that is the one! He is so much bigger than he looks in photos, around 6 1/2". And by hand, I do not mean I literally put my hand it with him, more or less hold food in the water, just sticking under the surface and he grabs it lol

For the foxface / rabbit fish noobs, they pack a PUNCH if you get stabbed by their fins. I mean one heck of a punch so be VERY careful, especially when transferring the fish to the tank after purchase! In some case hospitalization is required but in most cases, it just feels like someone is sticking a soldering iron into each puncture for about an hour and the pain travels up the arm.

Mine got me on the transfer to the tank. He started to flip in the net and I instinctively put my hand over the net. Did not even know he got me at first but I sure figured it out quick lol. :facepalm:

+1 for the magnificant foxface, I loved mine. He was an excellent reef dweller. Also the gold spotted rabbitfish was awesome. Pictures just dont do this fish justice, they are beautiful, and also a great reef inhabitant.

Good choice on looking for a foxface. I wasn't a really big fan of the foxface or rabbit fish that I'd seen until I saw a magnificent foxface at a LFS and fell in love. I have a cave setup he calls home and at night when the main lights goes off he hunkers down in there and goes into camo mode. I was very surprised how quickly they can change colors.

Here's another picture and you can see a small patch of calcareous algae I have left that he's nibbling through. He even went through some halimeda already!

I have a traditional fox face (actually my second one) and I have never had any aggression issues. Right now the new one (had him for 3 days now) is making short work of what little remaining algae is in my tank.

I have had nothing but good luck with family when it comes to reef safeness and aggression. I have kept the foxface, doliatus, and bicolor and all of them are great fish but none of them ate HA.
