Frag tank setup

My wife Leah's 45th Birthday is today (scrren name gabberjaw), and I got her a 20L tank for a frag tank. I have a few questions about using LR or sand.

Here is what I ahve assembled:

20gl tank
Aquaclear 20gal filter
2 maxi-jet 1200 power heads
heater
Current 30" 130w dual PC light fixture, 1 daylight, 1 mixed actinic bulb.
Skimmer planned, jsut need to find the right one..maybe a nano skimmer.


Eggcrate I will get at home depot.

So what do I use for biologic? Crushed aragonite, Live Sand, a few peices of LR?

The best way to do It is to run the frag tank off your main tank then you just run it bare. IMO but there are other way's also LR and sand W/ external filter or sump. Just a few options Andy!!

Thanks Bill!! I would love to do that, however i also want this to be my quarantine tank in a pinch so for now would rather run it seperate.

Depending on how much room you have, I would personally get a BIG sump (maybe a 100g rubbermaid tank? They're only about $100) and put all of the filtration (skimmer, rocks, RDSB, etc.) in there if you can't hook it up to the main system.

A lot of times that's impractical, but if you're wanting this to be a full-fledged frag tank with SPS, you've got some nutrients to think about and it won't be easy without constant water changes or a sump on such a small system.

Lights might be a concern with SPS, too.
