Fragged my bta

2 days ago I cut in half my bta,I made sure it was the best cut possible.
Both the anemones still aren't fully closed together.
They look like they are fine but the only thing that is bothering me is that the mouth hasn't wrapped itself together to make a full mouth.
Is this fine or is it something bad,the nems are in my dt in a breeder box so that's why I'm worried.
Thanks

I'd be very surprised if it healed itself.
In my limited nem experience, I always thought you Never cut them.
I'm quite happy when mine finally find a spot they like in the tank, if they split on thier own, great.
I hope yours is okay. good luck.

yes you can cut nems in half only in the mouth with a new scalpel also it must be 1 clean cut not like a saw back & fourth.. good luck ..
pics will be good

Bubble tipped anemones are one of the few anemone species that can be successfully propogated by cutting. However, the percentage of both halves healing is far from a hundred. A clean, precise cut is important.

A friend of mine propogates these in a large rubbermade tub in a greenhouse and has a fair amount of experience with this. He has also done a lot of research on the topic. According to him, he has the best luck if he waits till the anemone is about 6 inches across or more. For a while he was cutting them around 3 inches but had limited success doing this. Now that he waits for them to get a little bigger. Both the number and size of his anemones have increased significantly. Last I visited his greenhouse he probably had about 20 of them, all from 1 anemone.

Myself, I have only done this once. One side lived and one side died. I had better luck allowing them to split by themselves. I once had a single anemone split five ways. All five healed and I was able to sell the clones off at significant sum. Although this was 8 years or so ago and rose anemones commanded a higher price back then. Hope all this helps. Good luck with your two!

Sorry for the quality,iPhones don't have the best of cameras.
One of the nems seems okay, but the other isn't all that good.
They aren't bleached.might look a little from the pics but they aren't.

One key to success with BTA propogation is starting with a healthy specimen. They need to be in good health because they cannot eat for a week or more after cutting. I wish you the best of luck, but both halves look like the original nem was pretty weak. :(

Agreed!

Kinda sad the first 2 responses were that you cant cut nems, not sure why people would try and give advice eventhough they dont have a clue.

They can be cut & it is best when they are large. I use a new razor blade & have been successfull 2 out 3 times.

they look to be in the healing stages they will be fine just keep the water perimeters in check . good luck.

they deflated for some reason.
might be taking them out soon.
this is my buddies nem because his tank crashed and he's having me hold this one while his new tank cycles, told me to give fragging a try:P
lol,never doing it again.

20 years ago when it was hard to ship anemones- or anything else for that matter, we used to cut them all the time. I always used a 4 inch razor made for carpet tools. Our sucess was very high- higher than the shipping mortality of the era- so it made sense. Today with bubbles being so common, inexpensive and easy to ship- there is little cause. And with the rose bubbles- they split so fast there is no reason to propigate them. Of course I am only speaking of bubbletip anemones when it comes to fragging.

Maybe if you actually read my post, I stated I had LIMITED experience, and if you read my later post, I stated that I LEARNED that you can.
I dont recall giving ANYONE advice.
I use this forum to LEARN things from people - Not to be condemned by people like you.

some people should keep their comments to themselves.

They deflated for a short time.
They look good now, they've been showing some signs of healing the mouth.
It looks like 2 regular anemones now
