I second the opionion of black percula! I am fairly sure you can not frag a carpet anemone. If it was possible everyone and their mom would have a blue carpet anemone

Maybe I should have got clarification before answering this question.

My answer was in regard to a Carpet Mushroom. I figured (maybe I shouldn't have) that in the forum "Coral Propagation and Aquaculture" they would be talking about a coral (okay I know its not really a coral) and not an anemone.

Frag a Carpet Mushroom. YES

Frag a Carpet Anemone. NO

I am glad you clarified your first reply! I was skeptical of the advice you had given, especially since you own a pet store.:D Where is your store located in Salt Lake? I do take trips up that way often and would like to stop in.

I am not aware of anyone fragging a carpet anemone of any type successfully. The only clown anemones that have been fragged successfully in captivity are E. quadricolor (BTA) and H. magnifica (Ritteri).

so how often can you frag a bta?? and how long should you let it recover before fragging it again? would 6 weeks be long enough after a split or fraggin session?

Frag BTA

Frag BTA

How do you frag a BTA? I have only heard of them splitting in captivity.

Watch out everyone I am taking the scissors to my BTA tonight, anyone want some!!:D J/K

They are basically just a form of mushroom. I think you can just take a *very sharp* knife or razor, insert it in the mouth and cut outwards. Then do the same thing to the other side. Make sure its a clean, swift cut and put the 2 halves away from each other so they dont heal back together. I want to cut my rose that split about 2 months ago and has all ready doubled again in size. I think it should be safe now...

My hands are way to shaky for that. I never new that waspossible but it makes since. I would think that there is a high chance of mortality. Do you have any references for the procedure you are talking about?

BonsaiNut.... who successfully fragged an H. Magnifica?? i know someone had a split in their tank, but fragging it?? this i have not heard of, i'd be interested to read anything about it..
