Frags Please

Anyone live anywhere near Wisconsin or close enough to ship frags at a cheap rate? I just got my 55 reef finally finished and I really want to start off with some simple frags such as some zoos, polyps, mushrooms, etc... If anyone has free frags that would be excellent or cheap enough I wouldnt mind either. I know some people have an overgrowth of certain corals and dont know how to disperse of them well heres your chance! My LFS is way overpriced and doesnt offer any frags. I have a quad T5 setup on my 55 with about 75lbs of LR. Custom sump and eshopps pf300 OB with 1" pvc drain. Mag 7 return pump and Octopus1100 PS. My first well established reef and Im pumped for some simple softies just to start off. I really hope to get some replies and hopefully any input from anyone out there! Thanks!

hey great idea, thank you! Hopefully Ill receive some more posts on here, I know people have to do some "spring cleaning" if you will lol. Theres always overgrowth at some point.

asking for free frags isn't the best idea.

As for shipping, overnight shipping costs the same anywhere you go. But LiveAquaria has facilities in wisconsin. They might cut you a better deal on shipping since you're in-state........or they may be closer to you than you think.

Well I just figured, I posted on a gentlemens thread a few months back about mushroom takeover and he was going to chuck them in the trash and I said to frag them, mount them on a plug and either sell them or give them away. Didnt want to sound like a selfish *** or anything but you get the drift. thanks for the input though, much appreciated mike.

I think asking for free frags is perfectly fine. I have been trying to give away frags for a year and I can't get many takers here in south Florida. (But the ones that were "takers" have been very generous sharing back and forth when they could.)

I think too many people are in the "retail frag" business as simple hobbyists. If someone doesn't want to give them, fine. But if someone does, even better. What comes around goes around. One day they may need a clipping in return when they see hard (crash time) time.

If you were in FL I would have a bunch of SPS for you.

Good luck.

Well Laud If I were to find out shipping rates do you think you can provide adequate shipping structure for some of them? I would pay for it all depending on the price if it was worth it, I mean obviously theres no sense in buying a 65$ frag after shipping and what not if I can go get a real piece in the LFS for a bit more ya know. Im going to research some of this and perhaps we could work something out, help me help you, Im willing to pay for your time for packaging and whatever else entails!

Keep patience. My corals wouldn't be worth your shipping costs. They are $5 frags and packing and shipping would waste both our time and money.

Keep patient. There are lots of reefers around.

I give away frags all the time to my local club members. Like Laud said, you never know when you may lose a colony and need a replacement frag. :)

I am sure that you have thought of this or may even be a member already but these are links to the local RC forums in your area. It doesn't look like there is much action on them but hay, be a trail blazer! Good luck.

thanks a lot guys, I love this site because of how friendly and informational people are. I hope I can find someone in the area because Im excited to get some corals with the 800$ worth of new accessories added to my DT.

Oh yeah, I have bought from here on the "propogated livestock and corals for sale" forum. People have different packs available of various things. I paid $160 for 12 corals shipped. Check it out and once again, good luck.

Join your local reef club, you'll almost always get cheap or free frags. Especially the run-away corals, mushrooms, xenia, GSP, etc. Also the best source of cheato.

Hmmm where in Eau Claire? My dad lives in Eau claire and I could always make the commute and we could probably just bag them with pure oxygen and keep them in a well insulated box. Its only an hour and a half. What do you have available? do you have a frag tank? Jeff- I tried joining my Local area reef club and they never accepted me because they are a joke. I kept emailing and emailing them and I ended up here and I have no regrets. Reef Central is a great online source of information and the people are friendly and actually reply to your threads. Thanks for the idea though I appreciate it.
