I got a frag of Freddy kreugers from a friend of mine who got them from Mr Coral. I am just wondering if anyone else has these and Darth mauls I swear its the same zoanthid. If anyone has them and can explain a difference here to me I am definitely wanting to learn ...or does this vendor just make stuff up?

ALL THE VENDORS JUST MAKE THIS STUFF UP!

you dont really think these were called darth mauls in the ocean do you?

they collect them, give them a silly name, and charge 40$ per polyp on them.

sometimes the names can actually be traced back to original collections or collectors, such as "tubs blues" but often, many other polyps that look similar are given these same names to try and get the high end prices, sometimes people rename them, etc etc.

Its all about this...

Yes I am aware they name them just like any other morph of animals but that wasn't really my question it was specifically about Darth mauls and Freddy kreugers where Darth mauls were selling for $35 a polyp Mr coral was selling these Freddy kreugers for $70 or $80

I could never keep darth mauls so I cant put any input. I hope someone here can help as I want to know too.

People are very sensitive to names of zoas, in many cases it will just turn into names disussion sadly...

I always wonder why zoa do not deserve a name while other animals and plants do...

For animals and plants its a major form of description and identification ( consistent and all follow )... not in the case of Z's and P's where the original thought was for ID then that was abused and made into a marketing scheme and used mostly to gain top $$$.

Case in point, polyp most ID as Darth mauls, sold by another store as another DESIGNER name ( marketing ) but with a much higher cost. You be the judge

Doesn't that answer your question? He called them something else to trick people into paying double for them. And it worked. That shop is one of the worst things to ever happen to the hobby, just a guy chop-shopping with dismal survival rates.

Zoas color morphs are not consistent, if you get a flame angel, you can be pretty sure how its going to look. you get a polyp of darth mauls, they will look different from tank to tank under different lighting and conditions, their colors arent consistent. under the right conditions they might morph into a form of "armor of gods" or something like that. its all just made up names to get more money.

so does the ora pearlberry acro it looks different from tank to tank
and i have seen many acropora secales that look completely different, the same with breeds of dogs ,snake morphs, etc ,etc although its upsetting when you want that morph but dont want to pay for it........I am just wondering if anyone bought the freddy kreugers and darth mauls and if they can tell any difference

I'm with you rich850. Without a name, we have no idea which polyp you are talking about..
when we talk about names, they will just think of money, not "normal" discussing.
People told me not to buy cherry charm as they are just pink and gold with high price tag. I bought both and they are from two different world. Can we just talk about them fairly without the $$$ in mind?
Talk $$$ with vendor not in a discussion like this. The original poster will really appreciate this.... He was asking if anyone has them both not asking price different...

I agree color is not consistent, but patterns dont shift in my experience. For your information, there are different morph in angels too. I have seen so many different coral beauties these days and price tags are a lot different too.
