Free Coral swap program?? food for thought

There are a couple of different programs out there where clubs utilize a system to track and "give" "swap" etc.. corals between members. One is called "Pass it on" and there is another called "Pay it Forward" that have much the same idea, which is to share and propagate corals between club members.

Many may or may not have heard of these, they are not done using Reef Central resources. Since we have so many of us that do use this forum I thought this article in the current RK Magazine about how one club handles such a program to be very timely.

I felt this would be good for everyone to read and think about and maybe we could discuss this in the next Meeting "after the frag swap" as I know there will be much to discuss at this next one.

Read and think this one over : http://reefkeeping.com/issues/2008-09/feature/index.php

It sounds good to pass a frag around the club.I would probably kill it. haha But I think we need to try out.I just cleaned out my 12 gallon to get rid of the xenia.I counted 79 stalks and it all went in the garbage can.Just wished I had frag tank to keep it in until the frag swap.

I like the idea, I would suggest some type of LPS that will thrive in most light conditions.

frag tank, but you have a frag tank!!!

frag tank, but you have a frag tank!!!

Next time you have to throw away xenia let me know. I'll come collect it.

Xenia is kinda like an odd weed in the yard. It is interesting at first, then it starts taking over. The main difference is you can't use RoundUp. :)

I had a small colony of pom pom before the big fry of 2008, It had just started a new colony. But I do like the idea, although I am not a member of the club yet. Hope to be soon though.

Reefdiver: I'll take you up on that some time I used to go through beechbluff all the time when I lived in Huron and drove to J-State.

OK I'll Start The first WTMRAC member that pm's me can choose between these corals for free, ORA's super purple digita, Purple cap, green cap or orange digita.

You got it! I live in dyersburg give me a call and let me know which one you want 731 676 7048. All I ask in return is that at some point you give a frag to someone else.

xenia and gsp are the devil. really.

And brown star polyps .......

So what is the plan? Passing one coral around or starting a chain reaction of each person giving something from their tank to the next?

I thought we would just review how it has been handled by the Oklahoma group and discuss at one of the meeting's to get a good format to keep it going.

I know I have some bright green finger leather that I would gladly put in the mix when we get a format to keep up with it.

I am glad to see it being tossed around here, and hope we can get it going.

good idea. Grannybj and I already do this with each other. I give her Frags then if for some reason I kill mine I can get more from her. I guess you would call that a back up plan.

Oh we could paly a game at Christmas called dirty santa. Everybody brings a frag. then everybody who brought a frag draws a number then the person up can pick from the frags or take someones frag away, on the third take the frag can not be taking again and it is that persons.
