Free Crocea if you can nurse it back to health

Hi, so I have this crocea clam that hasn't been looking great lately in my 25 gallon. Have it under MH's, but for the past few days, it just hasn't been opening up fully. And today, just its siphon is barely peeking out. I don't think it's doing very well, but I defintely think it's save-able (still responds to touch, etc). I'm about to leave to Northern CA on Tuesday, and I don't think my fishtaker knows enough about them to properly monitor it. So if anybody wants to save this guy, he's defintely yours! I live in Alhambra. PM me if interested.

Jamie

PS. it detached itself from itself from the rock it's been sitting on for the past few months. this could be b/c it's not doing well, or it might just be b/c i added in another powerhead ...

BTW: i have phytoplankton already and can feed him as needed! i really like bringing stuff bak thats why i want him
half my tank was half dead stuff and i brought most of it bak except a favia with some disease but anyways if ur going let me know

That's so cool that you're into bringing things back to life! :)Unfortunately, I don't think I can make it to RAP (not sure how my work schedule is gonna turn out) Would like to get him out of my tank ASAP, hopefully before Saturday even.

So far, I have someone who said they can pick it up tmrw evening ... i'll let you all know if it falls through.

and as for testing levels, yeah, i know this might sound crazy, but I actually don't have a test kit for Calcium and alk, only for the basic pH, nitrite, nitrate and ammonia levels. Just that everything seems to be flourishing (hammers, GSP's, moon coral, 'shrooms, zoo's, RBTA) except for the clam that won't open all the way. Lighting is the 150 MH with 2 x 55W PC, aqua C remora skimmer maxijet1200 and 2 Aquaclear powerheads.

Now I'm looking into getting more test kits. What brand and which types do you recommend getting? (Ie. calcium and alk, but any others? Already have the basic pH, nitrite, nitrate and ammonia kit)

Thanks,
Jamie

if you have a reef tank you need to test ph, Alk, Mg. and Ca every week. you only need to test ammonia, nitrates and nitrites if you are starting your tank.. those should all be 0 in an established tank...

My suggestion would be to purchase the following test kits made by salifert: Alk/dKH - Alkalinity and Carbonate Hardness, Ca - Calcium, and Mg - Magnesium. These tests will give you a general idea exactly what your water parameters are at this time.

In other words, you could still keep your clam with one dose of dKH buffer...Calcium and one of Magnesium. I would also suggest that if you choose not to purchase the above test kits, try dripping kalkwasser into the tank to see if your clam responds.
With a pH on the higher end of the scale your clam if provided enough calcium should be find.

Good Luck.
