Free White tip Reef shark

Ok this is a strange request but it is legitimate and quite serious in nature.

A local tank maintenance and LFS owner (some of you might know who), has a big problem. One of his accounts has a 3 ½ foot long white tip reef shark in it that has to be removed because of it's aggressiveness (imagine that). Problem is he has nowhere to put this animal once it is removed.

The tank owner paid thousands for it and is giving it away to anyone who is willing to pick it up, unfortunately they will not ship.

Before the usual “He should have known better” Posts start I will be the first to say that the inclusion of such an animal into a system no matter how large (it is over 8000 gal in this case), is a bad idea. I do not condone the capture or sell of such animal. These creatures are from the wild and should remain there and that is my professional opinion on it. I am not affiliated with the Company in anyway shape or form other than being friends with the owner. I post this only as a personal favor for him.

If you are interested or know someone who is interested in this offer please let me know ASAP and I will put you in contact with the owner for further information.

PS This is a dangerous wild animal, to house it properly you would need thousands of gallons and a dedicated system.

We are the CVRC-Like I said I never ask much of any of you but "This is what we do" We try to make a difference with the animals in our hobby so lets try to find this guy a home people, start emailing aquariums, zoos etc, I don't care.

I posted this offer in the livestock trade forum as well, hopefully someone will want him. And yes before anyone asks it is Lesters shark.

Thanks,
Ron

Ok, I have a call in to the North Carolina Aquarium on Roanoke Island. I have been visiting that place since it was established and I know they take care of their animals.

Already contacted the GA Aquarium, the Newport Aquarium, and the Columbus Zoo/Aquarium. No responses yet.

Next on my list:
Baltimore,
Shedd

Sharks are like wet teddy bears with teeth, they just need love and a big pond.

Okay, NC called me back and they do not keep that type species, however, they told me to contact Virginia, that they thought perhaps they did. I will call and post later.

The problem is that most of the places I am checking are not going to travel hundreds of miles to save a shark that someone decided they no longer wanted when hundreds of sharks are caught and thrown on the beaches and on the piers to die right in their own area. People do not seem to think of sharks as animals, grrrrr, people just make me sick sometimes.

I will probably be dealing with these circumstances before long, I have an account w/ 2 black tips. I took this account over from someone else who sold them these saying they could live their lives out in this tank (~14'x5'x3') yea.....whatever. I just keep them happy for now. They have eaten 3 show size lookdowns in the last month or so ($200ish each) Sucks!

Yep that's why he no longer wants the sharks in there, they are to aggressive. This kind of irresponsible crap is what threatens our hobby IMO. If you are going to keep these creatures (any of them) learn what it takes to do so and if you can not you better find a plan B fast or leave them alone. He told me the white tips were impossible to get now since the hurricanes? I have no idea as sharks are not my thing, he said he was offered $15,000 for it but he had to ship it, which he wont? I agree most will not drive hundreds of miles to get a shark but hey at least we tried and are trying.

Thanks for the help guys
Keep me updated.

Well if they are dining on $600 in Lookdowns a month they should be ecstatic :D
btw fishmon knows I'm joking and I think it sucks too.

yeh thats true, if it were mine I would go that route. No wait if it were mine I would'nt be looking for a new home, I would have did it right the first time.

UPDATE:

Fuji has contacted the Newport Aquarium and they may be interested in buying her. Lets hope this little lady gets a new home fast. I dropped by to see her yesterday and wow! what an amazing animal. I invite you guys to go over and see her while she is still there. She is an incredible and intelligent creature which deserves a good home.

It's in his sump for his frag prop tanks. Doesn't have a hole lot of room but enough to move around.
