is it safe to feed fish raw fresh clams from the grocery store once they've been frozen? Or should they be cooked? I just don't want to risk making my fish sick. the clams smelled pretty fresh. no foul odor or anything.
its safe. dont cook them, its not necessary. just crack them open and serve them on the half shell, the fish will pick at until is basically gone, and your clean up crew will make sure nothing is left, then just remove the shell when you get the chance.
I buy fresh cut up clams at a local seafood shop and freeze them. Absolutelty OK to feed raw. Many people including myself use clams to get finicky fish to eat.
Hmmmm.. I may try that and see what happens. I have always cracked them, put them in a cup of tank water and kinda stirred them up (they produce way too much of a cloud of gunk if not).. I also pick out that wierd membrane because if I don't it just floats around the tank until I can get it out.. Then throw it in the tank.
I have alway thought about just putting one in there and seeing what the tirgger would do
