Frogspawns starting to dwindle

I have 2 different branching frogspawns. Both are starting to look a little worse for wear. No polyp bailout, but slowly looking like a withering plant-just not as full and big.

Params are:

PH 7.9 (a little low-raising it slowly)
CA 420
Nitrite 0
Nitrate 0
Phosphate 0
KH 8-9

I have many different types of corals that thrive: Duncan, blasto, acans, bubble coral, RBTA, green slimer, acros, etc. Everything is doing very well.

I do have a skunk cleaner shrimp and a peppermint shrimp. Just wondering what I can do to get them back the way they used to be.

Maybe spot feeding, I don't know. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

It seems mine doesn't like a lot of flow & is placed a couple inches off of the sand.

Any pics you can get would help. Is white skeleton showing??

Forget ph and chase alk-cal-mg instead. Params in my sig line will get pretty good lps growth.

How's your alk? Had something similar happen recently and it turns out my alk was too low, raised it up and by the end of the day all my euphyllias were open and loving life again.

Alkalinity is around 9.3. Ph is back and stable at 8.2.
Been feeding them and still no change-no improvement. One of them actually looks like more skeleton is showing-at least on two of the branches. I have no idea whats happening.

That's a bummer! I never had much luck spot-feeding mine, but they stay happy.

You said you've got some SPS corals, what kind of lights you got running?? Maybe its getting too much light?

Maybe something is bothering it or worse munching on it? Do you think you could post a pic?

I will try and get a couple of pis later tonight. I am running 6X 54W T5HO. They are both at the bottom, very low flow--just swaying the tentacles lightly.

You may need your bulbs replaced if they are 6 months old & run by ice caps. I'm sure what bulb life is with other ballasts but if your bulbs are old I'd replace them.

They may not be getting enough light on the bottom. Some corals handle less light better...............another coral on the bottom may not show any stress.

Bulbs are only 2 months old... I have had the frogspawns for about 4 months. I really think its my peppermint shrimp. Everything else in tank is healthy and happy. Bubble coral is huge and happy, acans, blastos, duncans growing like weeds... The Frogspawns are actually looking even worse. Almost ready to give them up for adoption and have a friend nurse them back.

Yea, I thought that p'mint shrimp could be the culprit. I've heard that when they don't have aiptasia or other food to eat they'll start nibbling on corals.

The only problem with taking out the frogspawns is that the shrimp may take a liking to other corals.. & if I lived closer to you, I'd def take the frogspawns for a while.

One thing you could do is take a clean plastic box, the kind strawberries come in, & place it over the frogspawn so nothing can mess with it. It may look ugly for a while but it would allow it to heal.

Have you tried a coral dip? There may be some type of flat worm or something that's irritating the coral. My peppermint shrimp have never bothered my corals (and I have a huge frogspawn). If there's no aiptasia they will eat any fish food or detritus before bothering a coral and even then, I think they are only going for dead flesh or parasites on the coral. Just my experience.

I had a similar issue with my frogspawn. One day I noticed sugar sized white bugs were on it. After a lot of research, I put him in a quarantine tank with interceptor overnight. Next day the bugs were gone and I placed it back in the display. Complete recovery and fat polyps. Might be worth checking

I am having the same trouble, and have also seen the white bugs. Preparing to do a dip I have read about on here. It is an alternative to intercepter, it uses Bayer complete insect contol. Gonna do the dip tomorrow!

I don't know if anyone mentioned this, but check ur temp. Frogspwans are very hardy, but can not handle temp swings. Also how old are your test kits? Only reason I ask is because I just lost a hammer that I had for yrs. it was over thirty heads and within a month all of it is gone and I discovered my test kits were faulty, Not till I got my water tested with other test kits did I find out that everything was out of wack. Also as for the pep. They are known for going after lps. Had a few in my tank when I first started and they killed galexia and a torch. Have you made any changes to your tank?
