Just when you thought the season for doubleheaders was over (Go CARDS!), wait until you see what we have planned for Saturday morning, November 12th.

Ever wonder how your favorite critters get from the ocean to your favorite retailer? We have the scoop, and the critters! Lisa Brown from Salty Underground will be presenting (with pictures) the procedures Florida Keys Marine Life follows in their collection and wholesale business.

Not only will we learn the process, we will be raffling a variety of their critters. We'll provide the specifics as the date gets closer.

That presentation alone would normally fill the usual Saturday morning meeting. But, how about this for "game two." For the first time ever, Lisa will be granting "behind the scenes" exclusive access to her online store for those people attending the meeting. You can get a preview of her inventory at www.saltyunderground.com. She regularly gets high-end Australian corals as well as the regular bread-and-butter corals. In addition, there will be a selection of corals specially priced for this event. The catch is this. Her location has limited capacity, only 10 at a time. Therefore, everyone will receive a numbered ticket when they arrive at the meeting so we can follow a first-come, first-served order of entry to Salty Underground.

Other Important Details for the Meeting:

"¢ The meeting starts at 10 AM.

"¢ The address for our meeting is: 9254 Watson Rd., Crestwood, MO 63126. Look for the SEASL sign on the door.

"¢ The address for Salty Underground is: 9264 Watson Rd., Crestwood, MO 63126.

"¢ Salty Underground will have some coral and salt specials just for that day. Sales are cash only. No checks or credit cards.

"¢ We will have some chairs at our meeting, but not enough for everyone, so please bring your own folding or lawn chair.

"¢ Zen, the Thai restaurant next door, is going to make discount coupons available to us should people want to have lunch there after the meeting.

"¢ There are no bathroom facilities at our meeting location. However, we can probably use the bathrooms next door at Zen.

"¢ If you want to place an order at www.saltyunderground.com for pickup at our visit, here's how:

o If you enter a Missouri address for the delivery address, you will are offered free local pickup in the checkout.
o If you are not from Missouri, use the meeting address for your delivery address.

Your order will be bagged up and ready to go after the meeting.

This is a must see for any new reefers or for those who are still learning (who is not?) how to tweak or improve your reef set up. Lisa and Kevin maintain some stunning tanks around St. Louis and have water quality and stability down to a science! You will absolutely pick up some tips to improve your system from this meeting. I learn something each time I pay Lisa a visit.

Here's a reminder for everyone that's forgetful like me. Our monthly meet and store visit is... THIS saturday! Remember to BYOC (Bring Your Own Chair!)

And speaking of forgetful, I forgot to mention that any purchases made inside the store HAVE TO BE MADE IN CASH. (Pretty important, huh?) So stuff your pockets or please buy it online beforehand at http://www.saltyunderground.com (credit cards and paypal are accepted on the site). This is a great opportunity to see firsthand the nuts and bolts of the "vendor side" of this awesome hobby, but I hope everyone understands that Lisa's location isn't meant for retail traffic.
For those attending, Here's a small taste of the fun

We will be getting started with the presentation at 10AM, and the early risers will be getting first dibs on shopping at Salty Underground afterwards, so if you don't pre-purchase everything, make sure you show up early.

Oh yeah, and then there's the raffle! Florida Keys Marine Life is a licensed collector located in Florida, and will be the main source of info for our presentation. They have also provided some items for us to raffle off, collected by them personally. The raffle items will include:
West Indian Snails
Christmas Tree Worms
St. Thomas Mushrooms
Gorgonians
Sea Cucumbers
Palythoa Grandis
... and more!

The wife and I had a great time and would like to thank the SEASL BOD and the folks at Salty Underground for arranging a very rewarding morning. Out frags and new cleaner shrimp are doing great!

Very interesting slide show. Thanks to all esp the Browns, glad the site is growing. Jim packed up before I could join, will do so soon.

Sorry Doctooh. I was spread a little thin yesterday AM, but I was gladto meet you. We'll take care of business in Dec. I heard the executive officer talking about their planning for the December meeting......it will be fun..Ho, Ho, Ho.

Great meeting, excellent information, a fun raffle, good buys, and good camaraderie. What more could a hobbyist want.

Thanks Lisa for the presentation and "œspecial" treatment at Salty Underground. I saw lots of fish/coral geeks taking home early Christmas presents (including me).

Thanks to Brad and all those who helped put this event together. It took a lot of planning, logistics, and teamwork.

Special thanks to Leah and Phil at Florida Keys Marine Life for the livestock raffle donations and the presentation that gave us a look inside their operations. Their sustainable collection practices and concern for the environment demonstrates there are good guys out there, doing the right things to protect the reef and the animals we enjoy so much.
