frustrated-contemplating a reset

So my tank isn't doing well mostly out of my admitted lazy husbandry. But also I have abiblical plague of hydroids. Another thing is I'm sort of bored...as unfortunate as it is, the planning of a system has become my favorite part.

There are some things I don't like about my current set up and my rock is overrun with the previously mentioned colonial hydroids. Is it worth it to unload my livestock, cook my rock and reset? Or just wade through the issues at hand? Does anyone have any success stories to share with doing a total system overhaul like this?

I'm also looking at this as a fresh start with a clean slate to do things the proper way with better habits.

i think it wouldnt be the best to just start over.....maybe you could new lr and not start all over

If you're not happy with it, you're going to rally now, but neglect it again soon IMO. If you wanna reset it, go for it to keep your interest! Offload your livestock or find friends to house the stuff you wanna keep. Cook the rocks or whatever, do the things you wish you had. Go for it!

Can we see pics of the tank and the hydroids? How much livestock is in the tank? I think I have a few colony of those...I love them lol.

Here is my old tank back in 2008, first pic is early in the year, 2nd is later in the year. Never cooked my rocks and I had all kind of bad algae and stuff on them before.

Hi, Ryan. If you choose to "reset" ..... a few months ago URS member 'puter' started a thread here on how to take rock "beyond cooking" to get rid of unwanted pests.

cully had a thread on this, too ;)

I'm with Cully; take this as an opportunity to start with a clean slate and do things the way you want. Call me corny, but there's nothing worse than maintaining a system that your heart isn't into. I'm four months into the planning/building of a small nano system, but you bet your bottom dollar that it will be exactly how I want it from top to bottom and IMO that will have a major impact on my dedication to maintaining it.

Get goin' on that Apex, too! ;)
