frustrated with Jaebo wp 40

I was one of the first to buy a vortech when they first came out. I thought it was cool and worked well, but I also thought it was loud and wasn't worth the price, so I sold it. After being gone from the hobby for about 5 years I had kind of expected the price to come down to somewhere around $250 (what I'd say they are honestly worth), but nope... I've been thinking of trying a couple jaebos on my new build, but I dont like junk either. Where is the middle of the row bang for your buck powerhead? Sicce?

Here is what I would do if in your situation - jda wrote: "Best thing about WPs, IMO... all of the Tunze 6105s and 6100s that are cheap on the used market right now. I scored a pair of 6101s and a 7095 on CL for $200 - I have no doubts I will be running these in 10 years. I just got another set on here, but it was more. I am going to stock up before the prices go back up like Halides have recently."

I have two 6095s (bought new) and just purchased an almost new 6105 at a great price through the sale forum. I also got a used 7095 controller, also at a good price, to add redundancy and insurance in case my Apex malfunctions.

Approximately two years ago, I was staring at a box of Sicce and Hydor powerheads I had bought in the past 1.5 years and did the math. I now only buy once and not worry about saving a few bucks. It has actually saved me more in the end.

I am sure that you could find great deals on the Vortechs too.

Regards,

I understand that, I guess to me stuff happens and they ultimately fixed the issue, I would guess the pump is still being used so why ***** about it. At least with Ecotech there was that option.

Hmmm let's see bc he paid a premium
He got the run around.
It doesn't matter where you look in life people who buy expensive stuff justify it by downplaying the bad even though the math doesn't add up lol

My friend and I bought calcium reactors at the same time in 1999. Mine had an Ehiem pump that I paid like $18 more for. His had a Mag 3. He made fun of me a bit since they all move water. I'll bet he replaced that mag three times before he bought an Ehiem pump. FWIW, my Ehiem is still running today.

Nobody has enough money to be cheap.

After battling all weekend with the folks at fish street, I either pay 17.00 for another housing or get nothing. They offered no options to compensate me for all the trouble I've had. I offered to buy another unit to go along with this one if they would work something out on a pair of replacement housing to go along with them. There answer was well if you buy the unit and we give you spares, that is the discount. I complained I'm only asking for spares because the product doesn't last. Horrible English translation I gave up. My mistake.

Sorry to hear that. :(

So what did you end up getting? I hope you were able to find a solution. By the way, I don't think the new Koralia Evo pumps have the same problem with voltage leaking as the old ones did. My buddies and I have used them for years and had no problems.

I have two tunze 6105's and two 6095's and two really small ones a bunch of korallias and a wp40 that I won at a raffle. If I need another pump i will probably get another tunze. Why? because I have had problems with everything pretty much anything you buy now breaks. One of my tunze 6105 has an issue its 3 years old and I make a phone call to a nice person and he takes care of me no problems, but thats my experience. I have been through many hydor impellers also good cust. service. The wp40 is only 2 months old so still new. I agree you get what you pay for but It does hurt when you pay double or triple and still have issues but if it is a good company they will take care of you. I believe all these pumps are priced equally compared to cust. service and expected longevity.

Question: Are the Jabao pumps UL listed? Even if you only get 12 months out of them, you can go buy another one and it's still cheaper then many others.
I personally own a Vortech MP20 and cannot kill it. It's dead silent and mine still uses the original controller. I think I have had it for 7-8 years.
Its like alot of stuff. Ford vs. Hyundai. LOL!!!!! Sure the Hyundai is cheaper in price, but it rides like a tin can, is gutless and if a Ford runs into you................do do dooooooo, do do doooooooooo................................

My MP20 reminds me of my Ford F-250 with the 7.3 liter diesel. 310,000 miles and still does not use a drop of oil. Sure you pay more up front, but a good company stands behind their products. They can afford to do it. The stuff is built to last.

You know who doesn't have a problem with the Jebao pumps? Your LFS! All the ones around me have Jebao pumps stacked to the ceiling.

I'm in the same boat as ReeferMike. Just now coming back to the hobby after having a pair of early Vortech MP40's that I was less then impressed with for the price. Worked well, but just too loud. Not really a design fault - there's no way a pump with a motor outside the tank is going to be quieter then one that's inside. But for residential use, it's just too much racket.

I too expected these things to be more affordable. I mean, we were screaming bloody murder when they came out that the price was just astronomical. In the intervening years, we begged and pleaded for some affordable random motion pumps (that didn't involve Hydor clicking sounds). Certainly, the LFS wanted some badly - good luck trying to offload a Vortech onto your random fish store customer. Clearly, Tunze and Ecotech weren't interested in delivering on that. I imagine they want to be the Apple Computer of the aquarium business. Now, along comes a Chinese company to drink their milkshake. I'm just surprised it took them so long.

In all, this is bad news for Tunze. In one fell swoop, nearly their entire product line is obsolete. I mean, even their low cost entry pumps that aren't controllable aren't competitive with the Jebao. Ecotech seems to be in much better shape. Nobody has copied their gimmick yet, and as long as there's still people that want things like lights and pumps that talk to each other :crazy1: they'll still make a ton of money.

Going to the OP I had the same issue and fish-street replaced the housing and then I discovered that it was a problem with the three prong connector and now it works fine. Just had to make sure it was not too tight before I screwed it together. Hope this helps.

the power supply on the Jebao's does say they are UL listed.
