Seems I simply cannot add any fish to my reef.

I've lost (after or during qt)

Regal angel
Achilles
Blue face x2
Navarchus x2
A bunch of anthias

I then decided to just put new fish in, and they all just died within a couple days, including tangs.

I had dosed the tank with prazi, and put air stones in, ran powerheads near the surface etc.

All the new fish died.

I'm at my wits end with this.

I quarantined, did everything right, and still fish die and die.

I'm not a noob, I'm not rushing things.

I am really frustrated. Any fish that can make a week seems to make it, but I e dumped a ton of money down the drain.

I really can catch them, and my sps is doing amazing.

What the heck do I do so I can actually add some fish. Please help me.
 
Actually..... YES. except a couple.

My poor emp is just an ugly mess. I'm hopeful this last Roy d of prazi kills all the flukes.

Can a LFS just have bad tanks?

Without a doubt. Ours has a nice collection of large aptasia that runs through all of their tanks because all sale tanks are on a central sump system. That means if one tank has an issue they all have it.

Achilles - man. Wish I had an answer. A friend bought one in Jacksonville, FL. Had it in the bag 14 hours before he left town. 12 hour car ride home. Got it in the tank and it was fine. 5 weeks later it showed signs of ich one day and was dead 3 days later.
Mine came in from Live Aquaria. Beautiful. Ate out of the bag. Hung out with all of its tank mates. Day 5 I went to go ride my bike and he was swimming around with the blue tang. Came back 2 hours later and he looked like he was coated in powdered sugar. Dead the next morning.
I have tried 2 shoals of Anthias. Both slowly died off 1 at a time.
I have a 4 inch hippo that I have raised since he was the size of a quarter so some things just go beyond explanation.
But losing that many there has to be a common denominator.
 
Is it possible that something is in the tank water to which the current inhabitants have built up a resistance, however would kill of new stressed fish?
 
I don't think Flukes are the problem. I never seen them kill that quickly. For the DT, I would let it go fallow for 72 days. During this time may have to find another LFS or maybe try online purchases as there are some good vendors out there.
 
It sounds like you have velvet in your system.
The dying within a couple of days fits the picture.
You may have to pull all the current fish and treat them with Chloroquine Phosphate while leaving the display tank fallow for about 2 months.
If it is a FOWLR tank you could also dose the system, though it is risky and not really something I would recommend.

I treated the whole tank with prazi. This is my second round. I added 2 Tunze 6105 powerheads, and took an mp40 off. The flow is insane in there now with 4 power heads lol.

I'm wondering if you might be right about velvet.

When the fish die, they just die. No marks, no dust.

When the Achilles died, there were hundreds of little worms on the carcass. HUNDREDS.

The emp looks a lot better after the second day of the prazi treatment, and all the other fish look really good too.

I'm also wondering if it may be because of my rock work. It's all Tonga branch and shelf, and there really aren't many places for the fish to hide. Stress?

Man, this is unbelievably frustrating.

My tank is all sps. And they are growing like crazy.

Would I be good just to go get some new rock, catch my fish, and put my sps into my frag system? I also have a 75 gallon qt tank, but it's not cycled.

I can fill that today and get a couple of new sponge filters. It's not like I have a lot of fish left. I suppose I could use a product like stabile or something.

I also have ick shield powder, which is chloroquine phosphate.

That sound like a good plan?
 
Are you matching the Sg of the lfs water. If not then you may find that your lfs holding tank Sg is much lower than yours. If you're just acclimating them in a short period of time to a significantly higher Sg in your DT, then that could easily be the issue.
 
I tore the tank apart and caught everyone. They are now in QT. AGAIN.

I was also thinking that my rock (Tonga shelf & branch) may have contributed a bit as well. The Rock is super dense, and doesn't really have as many pores as Marco, Fiji or pukani rock. I went through some of my old rock that I hadn't sold, and pulled some Marco and Fiji out. I took a bunch of the dense shelf rock out, and added some of this rock.

One of the branch pieces in my tank weighs over 50 lbs, and another one must weigh 80 lbs. I left them in. I used the Marco and Fiji as shelves or support points for shelves.

With one powerhead on, the current flows in between the rocks as I had hoped. I also added a bit more cave work, to give new fish a place to hide.

Picked up 2 magnificent foxface from the same LFS and put them in my frag tank. If they live a week, it's obviously a parasite or disease in my main system that's doing it. If not, then I know it's the LFS.

I suspect velvet tolerance allows my current fish to live, but new additions are swiftly killed by the disease.
 
Question if your not sure what is going on in your system or fish from the lfs that is killing new fish, why did you buy two foxface? Your not even sure if the fish will survive in your frag tank. Do you know of others that shop there have the same issues as you, if it is really a lfs issue, i think you would hear a lot of negativity from forums or word of mouth. Just my opinion.

Lavender tang.

I've had 4 fish in my frag tank for a few months. My friend wants a mag fox, so I grabbed 2.

I'm expecting the fox to be fine in the frag system. It's been running with no deaths for 8 or 9 months. It's completely seperate from my DT
 
Prazi is not effective against protozoan parasites. Clearly there's some kind of disease present. Not sure that fish can maintain immunity to velvet, but I'll leave that to folks with more direct experience with it than I (ich lots of times, but never had velvet). Suggestion earlier to treat tank with CP is a good one.
