If you are looking for max surface area to support live bacteria to drive down nitrates, then this is for you. It's made of inert "sintered" glass. Yes, simple heated up glass. It's extremely porous and contains no aluminum like another similar block you can buy.
Tank has never had a nitrate issue while running Siporax in the sump. It fact, in some cases, I've added nitrate and carbon to help drive down PO4, which it did very well. Now that the tank has matured it's no longer needed and needs a new home.
25 liters fits in a box that measures 18x12x12" so make sure that you have enough room for it in your system. Consider splitting it with a friend or two as its rates for a several hundred gallon tank.

1 liter sera siporax pond provides as much settling area for bacteria as, approximately 34 liters of clay filter material. Prefilter with sera biofibres coarse to prevent large particles from entering the biofilter.
sera siporax pond provides bacteria an extremely large amount of open-pored tunnel structures. This allows an ideal supply of the bacteria with nutrients and a smallest amount of fresh water. There are oxygen-poor conditions within the tunnels. This makes the bacteria crack nitrate to get enough oxygen. Consequently, they continuously break down nitrate, and the pond water remains low in nitrate.
The surface of one liter of sera siporax Professional has almost as much biological breakdown power as 34 liters of clay filter material
Calculation formula for sera siporax pond:
One single liter sera siporax pond is sufficient for purification of 1,000 liters pond water with 20 pond fish of 10 cm length each or a comparable stock (representing approx. 1.5 kg) of fish fed with up to 40 g high quality food per day] and release it from organic pollutions in long terms.
