FS: 48" AquaMedic HQI Fixture. Two 250w & Single 150w

I have this fixture for sale. I bought this from another reefer late last year and I want to upgrade to a larger fixture with T5's included.

This works 100% perfectly, no issues. The two outter HQI's are 250w and the center is a 150w (perfect for "midday" photo period).

No 250w bulbs are included but I will include the center 150w Phoenix 14k bulb. It has about 3 months use on it at 4 hours per day. I used it as a "high noon midday" lamp so thats why the photo period is so short.

$350. I would prefer to NOT ship.

Hi Perry!

I'm going with another aqua medic 48" HQI fixture. I loved this one but I wanted two things.

1. I wanted it to be black to match the rest of my setup

2. I want some T5's so I can start playing with bulb combos to manipulate coral colors.

My new fixture will hold two 48" T5's and I've already ordered 4 different bulbs to start playing with colors.

1 ATI Blue +, I've used these in the past. I love em
1 Giessman 11k, also a bulb that I've used as a "daylight".
1 ATI pro color, see how the pink will look with blues
1 UVL aqua sun, I've read good things about this bulb.

Good bulb choice....
I always had luck with the KZ bulbs too, maybe worth looking into... love the coral life (redspecrtum), and maybe the addition of one fiji purple... just fyi... sounds awesome man!

I saw this fixture in person. Awesome!!!! BTW, the Yellow tang is doing great. The first 24 hours was a battle with my PBT, they are good friends now.

Hey Mike! Thanks

I'm glad to hear. She has great color, I wished I could have kept her. Nice demeanor.

cham...I just saw your pics..and I have a question about hanging your light. I have an aqua medic 48" that I want to hang (obviously). Were you able to put the anchors in the studs or did you just "anchor" it in the ceiling. Ive been waiting to hang mine for a few weeks until I find a good way of doing it.
thanks
Jason

I climed up into my attic (mid summer) and put in 2x4's to screw the anchors into. They were designed to do just in the drywall but I wouldn't trust it.

A lit fixture falling into your tank is a major disaster.

i dont blame you a bit cham a falling light into a tank would not be good i cannot imagine the damage that would do to your livestock let alone a beautiful tank

Ya, lol, I create enough disasters on my own without help.

Another shot of the light over the tank. (disreguard the brown corals)

UGH! I was thinking this was the best way...but was hoping to avoid it! thanks!

Yeah, you and me both. I bought the heaviest insulation possible when I had this house built and I needed a shovel getting down to the top of the drywall.

Cut my foot wide open on a piece of steel stud that was sticking out too. Wasn't a fun day.

Then I find out that the T5/MH combo aqua medic fixtures have the holes spaced out 4" wider than this one, but theres no way I'm going up there to redo it. I'm going to have "A" shaped suspension cables.

yuck...that does stink..well, at least its cool out, so going in the attic wont be too bad(I have the insulation "problem" too. Did you use eyelets? or the supplied hardware?also..do you have your lights on diff timers? like actinic first then halides? the aqua medic ballast that my lights plug into( 48" 2-250watt, 2 t-5 bulbs) has strange plugs where they plug into the ballast. I cant put a timer on each one. I can only put a timer on the whole ballast.(does that make any sense?).

Really???? I sure hope not. T5's are run off a completely seperate ballast system. If they made it a "one plug" fixture I'm going to be upset.

I want to run my T5's to run about 10 hours a day and my halides about 6.

I don't get my new fixture till tomorrow.

let me go check mine...

Ok, I'll be here having a mini heart attack till you get back :D

ok...ocean light T- 2-250 halides...2 54watt t 5's...48 inch...checked the ballast box(everything is contained in one "box". 2 cords, im asuming one for the halides and one for the t-5s. so it should work with timers (knocking head against the wall) wasnt sure what I was thinking of for a sec there.....prolly the cord inputs from the lights to the ballast. super sweet light though..havnt turned it on yet..waiting to get it hung. Where are you getting yours? I picked mine up from Tom at Exotic aquariums.

<wiping my brow> would that make me responsible for the heart attack??? I so cant afford another house payment right now!
