the only known issue with skimmer is when i was cleaning the pump one of the screws stripped and one just broke on the head. I ran the skimmer for 2 days to see if there were any issues (aka leaks). absolutely no water and ran just fine. 475 shipped 400 local. prefer local so not to deal with shipping and do have the original box.

I'm surprised you felt the need to upgrade as I was at about 800 myself on my SRO 3000 EXT 1 size below yours.. And I was having no issues but you also have about 2-3x my bio load. Too bad I'm getting out and selling everything or I would buy your skimmer to double up... Unless you want to buy mine :-) that would be an impressive pair!! Seems like I paid about 700 for mine new which was a great deal off retail at the time

I bought Nick's 5000 and it is awesome. So someone with the right sized tank should jump on ebacon's 3000.

Mike, agreed they are awesome if I was staying in the hobby I would have purchased nicks as a tandem to mine

Glad it's working for you mpcart. Now that it has been a month or so with the supermarin 250 I honestly don't think I would call it a big upgrade in performance/cost over the xp5000. It worked flawlessly for me the few years I had it

I traded my BK SM250 for my xp5000 external. Haven't regretted it one day. The 5000 was on my system for 4 or more years without one single issue. Just did it's job day in and day out. Paired up with their auto neck cleaner, I'd just drain the cup every couple of days, for months at a time. And scrape straight mud off the underside of the cup lid when I would remember to clean it.
I couldn't get the 250 to stay dialed in for any length of time. Not knocking BK's , I really think the skimmer was just too much for my system (about 120 gallon in tanks, 320 TWV at the time). From what I've learned since, the BK's really need to be closely matched to their rating for them to be happy. The 5000 was also oversized for my system. But it was not as touchy- skimmed well, and without any of the overflow issues I had with the BK.
The BB pump puts out some nice small bubbles. I messed around with restricting the air feed like you do on the Deltecs with the Aquabees, and the skimmer went from putting out small bubbles to amazingly fine bubbles. But, it also increased the pump's electricity draw from its normal 60 watts to 95 watts or so. Figured it probably wasn't in the pump's best interest to run it so hard.
The neck extensions are nice also, if you have room for them.
