Thanks, Zon, for the detailed response.
When those mh come on, it will be fantastic!
I would only suggest going slow with the addition of 400w mh.. They produce a lot of uv so the corals will have to adjust..
Just wondering.. Why is frag trading is prohibited?
I love that nasuta. Beautiful.

what you suggest about MH?? start with less hours or more height?? now i use 12 full hours of t5 keep at 5" from surface.. some friend suggest me that start with max 6/8 hours but i think thta is too low.. i will use original german radiums with magnetic m155 osram HQI ballast and lumenark3

here the law is different from yours.. every corals we buy or collect have a cites number that identify it.. and i can trade or swap or gift without problem but must have a cites register where i must write all inside..is complicated (but i have).. is forbidden to sell , to make money with and import without license. Only shops or importer can make business with corals.
Many people sell frags or colony but is not permitted and they make ar their own risk..hope you understand.. i dream about your market where all is different..

Wow! You are very restricted with corals... It's almost like drugs! To some people (like me) corals ARE a drug.. :)
Radiums on magnetic ballast and luminarc reflectors... You can't get better output!
I always go by the saying 'better safe than sorry'...
I would raise them up to at least 12-14 inches and start with an hour a day and watch how the corals react, then increase photo period before lowering the lights.
Some might find this conservative but why take a chance with your prized corals?

Thank you..

this is my new entry.. The coral that i put on red jar in first pic.. Wild suharsonoi acro.. Not so colored coral but is difficult to keep well cause want low light and low temperature ( live under 100 feet in sea) we will see how react in future.. Other deepwater that i collect some died instantly some are good grower ( real red dragon , blue avatar, ice fire )

That's the first time in like 8 or so years I've seen an A. suharsonoi................the branching is unmistakeable.

95% of the ones labled as suharsonoi here in the US are not. Good luck with it.

I like to do this or either start with using egg crate or lighting difuser over the tank. This way you don't have to move your lights as much. I normally do this and start with 3 hours a day bumping it up accordingly every two days and watch as to how the corals react. I only run halides for 6.5 hours a day, anymore and I notice no real difference in growth or color. You can even remove the diffuser for an hour a day after things are acclimated more. Bumping the time removed up until your good. This helps with not messing with the fixture so much. The first number of days is the most important so keep an eye out for lightening of colors and all the signs of light shock.

Can't wait to see how well things look with the halides. They are my go to with a large tank and will always be as far as I can see it :)

In terms of PAR i believe that my actual setup push more or same of radiums.. I measured over 1000 par in centre of surface and 250 on bottom.. But light is different i know.. Tomorrow will take last things from a friend and begin to build my mh fixture..

heart of it is ready..

I may have missed it but what bulbs are you using in the new setup?

Also what differences do you find at 33ppt salinity compared to say 35ppt?

I agree with u on the pest .I have alot of Wild colony's also and I do have flatworms as long as te corals healthy it doesn't really affect to much.

U run the mh for 3 hours when u get new bulbs every time?Sorry don't mean to derail your thread curious for me whenever I change out my 400 watt radiums I have issues for a week or so
