Full Tank "Regression" Shots

So I went ahead and sold off all of my colonies. Boy do things look quite bare :sad1: My fish are freaking out a bit but they will adapt.

Anyway, I am going to lay low for a couple of months before adding frags. I did save frags from many of the colonies I sold so there will be some familiar pieces in there once I re-start it. And I am going to try something new in terms of lighting. Instead of 400W Radiums on HQI ballasts I am going to go with 250W Radiums on HQI ballasts. I want to experiment and see if I can get similar results with less wattage....you know....save some $$ with electricity. If it doesn't work out I can easily switch back since my fixture can handle both types of ballasts.

Let me be the first to say OMG!!!

I admire your courage - it is amazing to have that kind of courage.

So, what are you going to do now?

Let me tell you, I debated doing this for quite a while and it was very difficult. However, I could see signs that things were starting to suffer a bit from the lack of flow and moving things around so I decided to go for it. As of now I am going to re-start with frags in a couple of months.

It's amazing to me that it went from those two islands to completely packed with corals. If I never saw the islands I would have assumed there was a wall of rocks across the back. As dvanacker mentioned, I'm sure there were mixed feelings but it must be nice to be able to buy new corals that you couldn't fit in there before. keep us posted and have fun restocking

...and so it begins. This should be interesting. Us mortals would be hesitant trying to top ourselves after such success.

Reef burn if you were going to design a custom tank what deminsons would you do ? And amazi g restart - like beating a life then restarting - and I am sure you local guys were going crazy for those colonies

Ummm. He did design a custom tank. This was it.

Many thanks folks.

I did give a brief thought to downsizing but the setup I have is so perfect for the space that it would not have made sense. And the original design I put together with the equipment and rock work was awesome so I am not really going to change anything except for a slight modification to the lighting.

Keith are you gonna change anything else this time around? Looking forward to watching it grow again.

I'm in shock to see your tank starting over. I know it will look great again. I'm also curious how your growth will compare with the 250watt vs the old 400watt. I know with my 400 I def can notice a difference every few days with the coral now. Can't wait to see your tank grow up again.

I have 400 watt Radiums on galaxy ballasts. After seeing what people like Mark Polletti have done with 250 watt Radiums it's not a stretch to assume Keith's going to have some amazing colors and growth. Lighting isn't everything, but I just don't know how to make the switch to LED's when Radiums and VHO actinics look so gooooooood.

You're an animal! You really do define inspiration on every angle of reef keeping. It takes a ton of guts to do what you've done! I hope you made a pretty penny on some of those sweet colonies!!!!

I'm excited to see what you end up doing, as this tank is certainly one of my all time favorites!
