Full Tank Progression Shots

What is the Par on the 10k bulbs you are using vs the Radiums? I haven't switched yet from 400s to 250s but I don't expect any problems since the Par will be lower. Right now I don't have any SPS in my main tank. All my frags are in my frag tank and under a 400w Radium and I plan to keep the 400w bulb over my frag tank permanently to promote quicker growth.

I have to be honest, I don't know the PAR difference. I assumed the 10k would be higher. I wasn't sure if the spectrum shift may be too much for the corals.

I don't think you will have probs with 250w. I had 250w over 30" depth previously, without issue.

I'm just hoping that 9x 400w bulbs isn't too much and I don't need a mix of spectrum....

Will you run all Radiums?. What about led as a real challenge??

Thanks
Mo

I will be running 3 Radiums over the tank. I am not convinced that LEds are ready yet for a full blown SPS tank but that is just my own opinion. I know some have had success.

Can we get an update? I'm itching to see what you're going to do.

Nothing really new to report at this point. I am growing out some frags in my frag tank and I plan to move them into the display in 4-6 weeks. Can't wait to get things up and running again but I want to be patient and let things settle after the big change. Some brown algae made an appearance in the display but now most of it is gone.

A friend of mine was running a DIY LED set up and his color and growth was incredible. He said it took a few months for his corals to adjust but once they did it was on. Also his electric bill dropped from around $300 a month down to about $65.
where you can see photos of this aquarium???

Reefbum This tank was always stand out to me, truly an inspirational tank with phenomenal documentation. Well done!

Mark.

Many thanks for the very kind words everybody. At this point I have decided to shut the tank down and take a break from the hobby. I have been doing this for many, many years and I just can't devote the time and effort needed to maintain the tank the way I want. I'm sure I will be back soon since reefing is in my blood.

Keith,
Best of luck, you have served as a pioneer here around this forum, have learned alot from you and guarentee you will be missed, hopefully for only a short time, I took a break for a year and returned with a small tank, I could not be happier... Hope to see a return in the not so distant future!

imo, best tank i have ever seen! i took several years off from reefing too, but i'm back now! i hope and bet, we will some day see your tank full of sps again!!!

Wow...its a sad day. I enjoyed reading about your reef for a long time now....you definitely one of the top aquarists i look up to. Hope you come back soon :)

Keith, I am not a person posting often but always search for your thread when researching for best practices, you certinly have show us the way over the years and I personly will be keeping an open eye for your return . Good luck to you.

Man...you guys are making it even tougher on me to step away :hmm2:

I really do appreciate all the kind words and I am sure that I will be back soon. Just need the break to re-charge the batteries. I will still be on RC living vicariously through you folks so I won't be totally gone.
