Fun with mangroves

I did a waterchange on my jbj nano this weekend and decided to take the water from the rear filtration chamber. So I took out the two mangroves. One of them was submerged so it never grew up top. Here are the pics. I though it was pretty cool the way the roots grew into the sponge.

I want to grow some in my tank, but more for the interest factor than any hope that they will do anything beneficial. I've gotta believe that they grow too slow and/or re-pollute the tank (dropped dead leaves) to an extent that they aren't meaningful for nutrient export.

But I have a really tall bit of live rock that's within half an inch of the top of the tank. Too close for corals to have room to grow so I might as well stick a few mangroves on there.

Are there any cheap local sources?
