Fungi Plate Help

My two week old plate coral has split in the middle and the skeleton is showing. The opening is about the size of a dime. Do plates recover from this or is it doomed? Anyone have any tips on their care?

Are you feeding it? Is this the mouth?

I haven't target fed it yet. The opening IS in the center, but I didn't think the mouth would open this wide, to the point where I could clearly see the skeleton. But this is my first plate so I have no idea. I'll try to take a pic.

Here is a pic of the opening in the center of my plate.

It's a gaping mouth. On my healthy plates this only happens during feeding, and they close back up after bringing the food into the mouth. If yours is just staying gaped, it is not a good sign. I'm not saying its done for or anything, but it is unhappy if its just staying like that.

Green fungias death.

Green fungias death.

This one eventually did die but I left the skeleton in the tank and from it I have over 50 babies spawn from it. Took about 3 months to start to see them.

Update:
It's looking much worse now. Over 75% of the skeleton is exposed. I've moved it to a slightly shaded area to let nature run its course. Hopefully, I'll get some offspring in a few months.

I hope he had luck with the offspring from the plate. It is the plates last line of defense to spread off babies like that. Its pretty interesting stuff.
